Pineview Reservoir in Northern Utah is only at 37% capacity as of July, 2021. Utah, like most of the West, is suffering from a serious drought. To make lemonade out of lemons, we decided to take some metal detectors up to the dry lake bed to see what we could find.

When they drained it back in the early 70s we walked almost over to the point but mud stopped us. We also found the foundations. My Mother rode the train to the fountains that were free flowing. I have a postcard that shows Artisan Park.

I'm local to Utah and had a pretty good chuckle at "Mrs. Eccles, herself." Way to be clarifying with the overlay so everyone could get in on the joke.

I went metal detecting in a local park that has been around for 80 years and gets half a million visitors a year .. I couldn’t go 10 inches without finding the old snap tops from soda cans. There must be millions of them in this park. I actually gave up.. but I did actually find a yellow gold wedding band laying right on the surface without using my detector.. I do not find coins just laying everywhere in the parking lots of shopping centers anymore like I used to, because people don’t carry change. Everything is credit or debit pretty much.. I worked in the field for the a utility company i retired recently retired from.. I would usually find coins every day. I would find a treasure trove of coins in the parking lot where they push the snow in the corners of the mall parking lot when the snow starts to melt in March. I have saved every coin I have ever found. I have two large coffee cans full of these corns that I started collecting in the 70s. I never looked at them to see if they have collector value--- yet

I remember when I was a kid aand they drained it to repair some wells. I remember seeing the foundations from old homes that were covered when they raised the dam higher after they rebuilt it. My Dad told me that he remembered the homes being there when he was in college.

My Montgomery Ward crystal ball sees a 500" snowfall this upcoming season at Powder Mountain. Maybe that will ease the drought conditions a bit.

you were actually not looking in the best area but were close to it. if you went about a half mile or so south you'll find what looks like a gravel road, which is actually a railroad grade, and there are also some foundations in the mud with some unique relics lying around too.

Stay with it Tim, treasure is just one arm sweep away. Pineview is soooo low. The only time I seen it lower was back in the 1960s when it was drained and work was done to the dam and artesian wells.

That Olympia beer can kicked ass. Old school Clint Eastwood favorite from the 70s. They brought it back a few years ago but I don't believe it's made in Washington anymore. Buried party treasure from the 70s lol.

I've done some metal detecting at Pineview Reservoir! I know the beach your on and I found loads of aluminum cans. My grandpa worked on the PIneview Dam in the 1930s People get mad when it's called 'Ogden Valley'? First I've heard of that. Anyway, keep working it! The comments about Mrs. Eccles were hilarious! 🤣 I've read 'The History of Weber County' and there are a handful of last names of the early settlers that got to the area first and the last names are still running the show. I enjoyed your honest approach of finding garbage. Keeping it real!
