The wagon wheels are from 2 seperate wagons and different decades too. The wooden one is like pioneer wagon type. The metal one was probably from farm machinery. Growing up on an Indiana homestead farm that has been in the family for well over 150 years, we had many old pieces like those. Old 1 and 2 bottom plows had wheels similar to that metal wheel. You had several great finds and the excitement on Houston's face was priceless! Such sweet memories that you will share for many years.

The metal wheel could also be from an old metal hay rake.
@Feribrat99
@Feribrat99 16 күн бұрын
@@mbusch76 yes it was from a light weight piece of equipment, too small for any rigorous work, too small for a light buggy wheel, that is a very fine hub size and would not have been able to haul enough weight to go far. Local use on a farm or on a barrow is about all it could be. A hay rake had several sizes to it for running gear but it never would have held even a plow weight since it would have ben tore up too quick. The flat rim tells me that it was before they started using rubber tire cuz the rubber ones were cupped to hold the tire. plow tires had wider rims at the very least. Most of mine are one horse size and are heavier than that just because of rocks.

Mulberry trees grow wild in this part of Texas. You eat them when they become dark purple. They make great jams syrup and wine. 😅 If you'll take some of the right ones to your place they will grow you can take some cuttings off those trees. Mulberries are easy to start and they are well worth it. We have five good size ones and several young ones thanks to the birds.👍🤠

The first wagon wheels were made of wood. My hubby jokingly said maybe it was a wheel to a cannon. If the civil war was fought in your area 🤷‍♀️ We found an old button of an old army military shirt once when we went to a local lake. You could see the old houses foundations when the lake was low, that had been under the water for decades. Another old time neighborhood was flooded to make a man-made reservoir. It was my great aunt's little lane of farm homes and where a john wayne movie was made in the hills across from her home. Just to make a recreational lake and camp ground. They weren't given a choice to not sell... Every time we go by Jordanelle Reservoir all I can think of is my aunt's house taken from her. I've only been to that lake once maybe twice since its was made and I felt guilty. My mom was pretty much raised by that aunt and that was her home too. Just a little house with a little creek in the front yard. I can only imagine what could have metal detected. "Progress" sucks sometimes!

They are a little far west for the Civil War, but they are on a feeder route to the Chisolm Trail. Likely a chuck wagon or other heavy support cart.
@Feribrat99
@Feribrat99 16 күн бұрын
Cannon wheels would have been taller unless it was a real small one you might have sat with at the top of a small hilltop, the really small cannons were carried by several men and sat on the ground and were short nosed and fat. Civil war ones would have been taller and most were metal by then because the industrial revolution was happening and they had foundries, I know guys who built the wheels and pour the cannons too. I can do wheels but am not a foundry But by the civil war it was metal and wood with a metal rim. The big heavy cannons were still wood at first but they soon changed over to a combo and many had the metal hubs too. They were in the middle of huge changes then, Take it to a local wheelwright or a blacksmith and they can help you fine tune it. Depends also wether it was Yankee or southern ones who had it for the latest and greatest LOL.

Garrett is the best brand name for metal detectors. PS-cartridge is copper. U can tell by the green patina. Talked to hubby about this (as he’s a retired safety handgun & hunting instructor, Reenactment cowboy in Saskatchewan, Canada) says that copper bullet casing are from around the late 1870’s (quickly terminated, so copper casings are rare) and were used in the battle of Little Big Horn. They tried copper casings, they found the copper was far too soft to extract from the Springfield single shot trap door carbine (rifle).

That a great boat! My husband’s buddy had one- but we lived on the gulf and that wasn’t the greatest ride on the gulf. We now live in Alabama on rivers now and that would be a great boat now. Husband and I still have our bow rider that we had living on the gulf to go scalloping. I love to fish- hubby is happy baiting my hook with a beer in hand. 😀 so I’m on the market for a river boat! When we moved from Florida I told my hubby I want to be able to hunt and fish on my own property. Cuz I like that stuff too- but we have livestock and someone had to stay home and that was me. I got three bucks on the wall and a bass. I have a 10 acre pond. So im close to Demopolis in Alabama. I’d love to meet more folk like us!

** sorry long post ** Gr8t for jam or jelly - or a bowl with cream. Kelce is like who to play with. It's cool when Bella is with you at the creek - via tee shirt. Out hunting we went to a rock pit I found lots of rocks with what looked like fossils. Two of the rocks had shells. The bigger one had a small shell - while the other was limestone with a nice shell in it. Seriously this one looks like a leaf or fern. It could be some invertebrate. Maybe put the fossils in a shadow box to keep them safe. Dang, should have a shovel. There could be an old settlement along the river bank. This would be cool to hang - then 2 plants on the front side. It is water that is clear for sure. This is Learning 101 fresh as it gets. This is what some classes should be doing. A very large pontoon boat with a top to enjoy sitting or laying in the sun. Have a propane BBQ for fish or other foods. Small fridge for drinks and some food. Is there another place for farms/homesteads loss? Love Bear. Is the metal detector for in the water? Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing, eh :))

Very cool finds! A wheel and hub could be from anywhere, but it could also be possible that someone used the wheel and hub as a water paddle wheel for some purpose like pumping that spring water to a different location. Wind mills and water wheels used to be a lot more common. And those mulberries are good. But take one and spread the little seep pods apart and you'll probably see little bugs running around in the berry. But that never stopped us kids from eating them by the handful, we just thought it was funny.

The smallest fossil is also a trilobite. The other is a horn coral fossil I think. I have a sedimentary rock full of holes. I was told by my professor that the holes were made by little shellfish who ate the calcium out of the rock to form their shells. When I looked with a magnifying glass There were tiny little shells stuck in some of the holes. they ate too much and got too big to get back out. That is just one of the ways that holes form. Hi, I am from New Brunswick, Canada. I am not an expert it is just one of my passions.

I don't know about Oklahoma, but in California, the deer absolutely love mulberry leaves. I found this out in the fall when my yard was covered in leaves from our mulberry trees. After dinner, I looked outside, and there were several deer munching on the leaves like they were candy. It wouldn't be a bad idea to plant some mulberry trees out in your favorite deer fields

Perhaps it was like a settlement, with that spring right there in the cold water. So many things we come up with.😂 🙏❤️

What an awesome place to raise a family! Just think of all of thee priceless memories that you have all made there together! What you are doing together today is such a wonderful blessing from God. Your pups are living the best life, too! Kelce is a hoot! She really makes me smile from ear to ear. Stay safe from all the storms to come. With prayers and love for you all from Donna Gulyas in Florida....

I love to watch you and Houston. Your relationship and how much fun you have together is so heartwarming. It was really cool to see the mulberry tree and watch Houston enjoy it. My grandparents had one in their front yard that had to be over 60ft tall in the 1960s. I remember climbing it as a little kid and eating the berries until I was purple from head to toe.😋 Granny would make preserves for me every year. She also made me jelly from their Hopa Crabapple tree. Wonderful memories for me.🩷

Yeah, I thought that’s what it might have been! I lived on land that was close to Native American land in Florida and would find cool things after a heavy rain ( hurricanes usually) on our property! Good hunting y’all!! I never found anything that cool! Congratulations y’all!
