Join me while I try to answer this important question: Is Multi-Frequency REALLY better? I borrowed a Minelab Equinox 800 and logged 75 hours on the machine to find out! #metaldetecting #metaldetector #comparison #technology #relichunting #detecting #detector #f75 #nox800 #minelab #minelabequinox

Good fair comparison, I am starting on my 15th year of detecting and I started with an ACE 250 and it was a good machine for me to learn. I was hunting with my friend Doug at an old school yard he was using an E-Trac so on one signal I asked to check he did and told me to dig that Wheatle, and it was! He let me try it and told me a few things about it and I went back to the area I had just hunted and checked a few signals that I passed on because they were very unstable. With the Etrac the signal were still a little bouncy but consistency of tone and target Id caused me to dig and they were all coin. I realized it was not just signals I missed but the stability. So I got an Etrac and eventually CTX and dug great stuff. Then as I got older weight started to be an issue I borrowed a Deus 1 hit a hard hit farm field and first target was a head stamp and I told my wife I thought that is what it was just by the tone. Then I got a decent high tone with a good ID I told her, Large Cent and it was! Then I knew it was not multi or single frequency that made a difference it is experience and understanding tones for me. Dug great stuff with it and went to a D2 eventually it gives the flexibility of single frequency and multi. It took some hours to understand that the D2 is not an enhanced D1 but a separate machine on its own platform. So my conclusions any quality machine is good. Just need to learn what it is telling you!

I don’t see any real advantage aside from wet sand and hot soil functionality. I dig iffy signals so it’s not an issue for me. For the price I don’t see an overwhelming reason to change. If the Nox found many signals that the F75 couldn’t hear then I’d say yeah, I’ll change

Great video! I would of liked to seen more info on the F75 settings that were used while testing. It seems obvious that one detector performed as well as the other. While I am field hunting here in the midwest, the focus is on target ID and sound and not so much about depth. I 'm glad that you didn't make the video all about depth comparison as that is a whole other issue.
@Buckleboy
@Buckleboy Жыл бұрын
Yes the main issue is: is the signal one you’d dig or not? Signals that don’t sound good get passed over regardless of depth. The F75 setting was disc set on 6, 3 tone. Sensitivity 90. Default mode. (Boost gets maybe a centimeter more depth but causes issues in heavy iron!)

I just bought a brand new teknetics, 2+, I can afford to buy anything I want, but I had a teknetics 2, about 4 yrs ago, but sold it, but I loved it so much, It's about the easy st metal detector to set up, fir any hunting mode you can find! So I bought another one, and ya, it's 10yrs old tec! But the engineers who designed it, hit a home run in my opinion, because the learning curve to be proficient in using it is so small, and works great, An old man told me onetime, you, take a $150.00 dollar detector, and some one that uses it every week, and a $1000.00 detector, that someone uses once a month, and guy with the cheep one will find more stuff every time! And I think he was right!

Totally true! It’s the experience that makes the difference. Folks nowadays seem to run off and chase the newest detector every year or two. They won’t even get it learned before they run out to buy the next one. Most folks have a collection of 10 detectors that they don’t even use, and hang them on the walls like trophies. They’re aren’t deer heads, they’re a sign of wasted resources, lack of patience, and buying into hype. ;)

I have always believed in owning 2 top end detectors built by different companies. This is my 52nd year of detecting. I began with an old Bounty Hunter BFO machine, then hunted many years with the White's analog machines. I bought the F75 ltd in 2016 and used it exclusively for the next 5 years. I nicknamed it "The Beast". I now have an XP Deus and an XP Orx. Last year I got a new permission on an old home and hit it first with the Orx, then I went over it with the Deus I. Lastly I brought in the F75 and I found as much with it as the Deus, and Orx combined. I had a Garrett Apex multi frequency and it was pretty good until I did the 2nd update and that ruined it in my opinion. We have a volcanic lake here which has iron infested volcanic rock everywhere. Garrett's will not work there at all. I have a friend who has a V3I, and it won't work there either. I had a Nokta Anfibio multi that didn't work well, but the Fisher's and my XP's work awesome there.

Minelab's promotion of their Equnox machines made me chuckle a few years back, when they told the metal detecting community, " Multi IQ Obsoletes All Single frequency Metal Detectors!" ....or such-like. My immediate response to their all-embracing rhetoric was, "So why have you put five user-selectable single frequencies on this, your paragon machine?" I never did get tempted with a Minelab or a Deus. Too much money, for me, when I can do just fine with my F75 and Leg-end. Just my opinion. No disrespect meant to anyone or any machine.
@Buckleboy
@Buckleboy 2 ай бұрын
I completely agree with you! If multi is better then why have single as an option? And now “multi dimensional multi frequency” is even better, right? (Whatever that is!) It’s gotten ridiculous. No one has adequately explained the multidimensional aspect of the new Garrett machine, which means that it’s just a new name for something else rebranded. “Multi frequency” actually existed back with t he Whites DFX. My time spent doing this test-nearly 100 hours for a 15 minute video-was worth it. For this soil type, it’s not worth the hype. I’m wary of any company saying “this makes other machines obsolete.” That is always shameful BS. Other machines will ALWAYS still find good stuff too!

I own 21 detectors and very few differences through out the range. Tesoro still one of the absolute best in iron looking for nonferrous targets, but yes deus and new ones are quicker and better but at 1k more in price. Garrett GTI 2500/ 1500 great at finding nonferrous targets by using the notch features with a twist called averaging. If you don't know what Averaging is i have made a video on it in my WV Coinminer video's. It is taking targets from the area you detect and stack them on top of each other in combinations to see where they hit after notching out iron pulltabs etc. If a dime and pulltab with iron hit in an area notch it if not already. Usually when averaging your targets slide down the scale. Yes l still find junk but no where near as much and makes quick work park hunting. I test several machine and some pass the tests others don't but give averaging a try if your detector has notch out features.

You’re exactly right! Not much difference in detectors as many would think-at least not much between fishers and minelabs Deus or Nokta. Folks really have the wool pulled over their eyes. Paying thousands for an edge and the only edge they get is a lighter wallet to have to carry around.
@Buckleboy
@Buckleboy 11 ай бұрын
@christianh7863 yep and I clearly state that on the video. But I don’t dig underwater and the ground here is mild so there is virtually zero appreciable difference as I also said on the video. This was not just an air test or one hunt. It was 100 hours hunting the exact same ground with both detectors. Also, if you notice I wasn’t talking about the weight of the detector, so 1. Reread the comment and 2. Watch the video ;)

Already done. My wife swings a simplex and the three detectors are all about the same. I’ve only logged about 25 hours on the simplex. Figured the lack of an appreciable difference in performance between it and the F75 might be due to the low price point. Evidently not so.

I agree. While I don’t like the breakneck pace companies are coming out with “improved” detectors and trying take money from everyone under the guise of “the latest and greatest,” Fisher needs to get back into the game and I agree that it’s been too long. That said, their detector compares favorably so if they can solve the wet sand and mineralization issue as well as waterproof it then they’re back in the game again.
