Hi lads, great videos.. and ballsy of you to put them up. Just new to detecting after dabbling a little many years ago. Got the itch after watching "Detectorists" recently.... Anyways, just wanted to throw my twopence worth in... I pulled up a map from the National Monuments Service...I live in a rural area in the middle of Ireland, and in the 84 square km area around my house there are around 120 "areas of historical interest, monuments etc." dotted on the map. Where I live isn't particularly special historically, so taking this as an average, there are probably 120,000 monuments, places of historical interest/archaeological sites listed in Ireland at present. So when are the archaeologists going to get round to investigating all of these? Never, because in the thousand years it would probably take, there'd be another thousand years of history to discover. But I'm not advocating detectorists are allowed onto any of these 120,000 sites with their detectors, that's not the point. The point is why aren't they officially allowed to detect in other places? Archaeologists will NEVER get around to all the bog standard fields, laneways and pathways which detectorists want to explore. They come out with emotive statements suggesting detectorists want to rob and plunder the Irish people of their heritage. These self-serving, egotistical hypocrites KNOW they will never get round to properly examining the 120,000 or so sites they already have listed, so will NEVER, EVER get round to your average field. So rather than being the protectors of our Irish heritage, in truth they are willing to allow our history to rot away in the ground rather than for it be discovered by anyone other than themselves. They are conning the Irish public, pretending to be the saviours of our heritage when in fact they are destroying it through neglect, denying the opportunity of vast areas of uncharted land to be explored.......Regarding the law... You get asked about the law regarding detecting quite often I notice. I'm not a legal brain, but my interpretation of our crazy law is this.... It is NOT illegal to own a metal detector. It IS illegal to use one for the purpose of discovering archaeological objects (including 20th century objects! So that pre-decimal shilling is an archaeological object??). It IS illegal to use a detector on one of those 120,000 sites I mentioned above. It's a typical "Irish solution to an Irish problem" convoluted bullshit scenario. However, it is NOT illegal using one to "Help someone find their lost keys", for example, or "Assist in finding that lost wedding ring?". So, if you are questioned by the authorities, are you looking for archaeological objects, or those set of keys your mate lost????? Hmmm. Only you know the answer to that one :)

Hi, I recently moved to Ireland and really want to get into metal detecting but the law kinda makes me think I'm gonna get arrested or paying a huge fine. How is it with the law? Let's say I go on a beach to search for something with a garret pro, will they fine me?

Hi Lads, nice video, that was some coin shooting, the G3 coin looked in decent nick, might clean up OK, and some silvers to finish off, cant be bad, but it would do my head in seeing gold coloured coins all the time, if we see a gold coloured coin over here, we expect it to be proper gold...LOL take care lads GL & HH Tom

Actually National forests Beach's Public parks Playgrounds Mountains Rivers and streams Are all legal regarding metal detecting Archeological sites and farm land are illegal. They can confiscate Your equipment and prosecution You if caught. Although with farmers permission it's legal. Beach's would be Your safest bet and easiest place to learn and find items. Kindest of regards

I got 2 metal detectors 1 for me and 1 for the lil man. for this crimbo, then I was searching on Google for good places te metal detect, and it said it was against the law, and that you need a defectors license and a archaeological digging license and that they only give them out to certain people..

Ridiculous law In England you hand up you are rewarded Why their museums are full. Due to Ireland’s post law everything end ms up in a bedroom or on the Black market.
