I don't detect much, and have only found 2 silver coins, both 1943 Mercury dimes, one across the road from me and one next door. Found loads of clad , and those pennies copper plated zinc that corrode to nothing, but found a heart shaped sterling silver piece of jewelry with 25 tiny diamonds in the "hunted out park" that went on a necklace, never could find the chain, but I looked for it a long time. A neighbor that is in a metal detecting club was amazed he didn't find it!

Probably an easier way to clean the dirt off in the field is to carry a condiment-sized tupperware container of water, just place the coin inside and shake the container for a few seconds. Can be re-used over and over, and you can even place a sawed-off toothbrush inside to do a more thorough scrub.
@MetalDetectingDonna4 жыл бұрын
Robert Evans that is a great idea Robert! I may do that as well! Unfortunately, I am a rubber too.
@chrisusrey34523 жыл бұрын
Depending on the artifact, this idea is pretty solid (coins, solid brass objects, etc). However, this would be a bad idea for delicate items such as buttons, jewelry, etc. I would recommend wearing a canteen of water to resupply the smaller spray bottles when needed. Also, recommend bringing along small pill bottles to protect delicate artifacts. Fill 1/2 way with dirt from the hole the artifact came from, then place the artifact in the bottle, then finish filling it with the moist dirt from the hole. This will ensure the artifact does not dry out during the day and crack. Remember, it survived possibly 100s of years in the rough old ground, till we humans came along a damaged them with love! Lol. Good luck and hope ya'll find a mess of stuff!

First of all congratulations on so many wonderful finds. I admit I am a little concerned about the way the dirt is being scattered around your digs. Was the ground too crumbly to dig neat plugs? I recommend bringing a little hand towel with you in the future to use as a dropcloth. You can dump the loose soil on the cloth and recover your target without making a mess on the homeowner's lawn. :-)

One person chatted me up & said she watched MD videos from the UK & loved them. I told her the vest stuff are found in yards and she offered hers! She lived right were I was swinging. This was a few months ago. I plan on doing it again when Spring comes! Most people have never heard of a large cent. 👍😎 Unfortunately for me, she wanted the goodies. Asked me what I wanted & I said the token. I probably should have made arrangements first. Lol. I think the token was the best find, but, I would have liked to keep it all
