Thanks for sharing the slice method and recognizing a pull tab by tone. I’m still learning my machine(s) so I’ll be digging trash for awhile. Dave in Eastern PA.

Very cool method for slicing the hole rather than going for the plug. My grandson found a piece just as you found that you're not sure of. It is a square piece with a kind of middle band through it. It is a curtain weight. I was told that it is from about the 20's - 30's. Used so the curtains wouldn't flop around in the breeze. Good to see your videos

I've been using the slice and peel method of recovering for the past 15 years on anything under 5 inches in depth. first time i ever seen anyone else recover targets that way. its so nice to see. i have been approched by grounds keepers over a half dozen times with the intent of kicking me out, but after watching me work with this method and how univasive it is they just gave me a nod and walked away. from what they tell me, they get detectorists in there dragging t-handle shovels behind them that dig the hell out of the grounds, and many of the plugs they dig do pop out when mowed. i cant stress enough that t-handle shovels were made for rural/field use. a guy in an old house up the street had his front yard sprinkler system destroyed after allowing 3 detectorists armed with these shovels to detect. not a very nice way to say thank you for granting us permission... I'm hoping the wonderful hobby i've enjoyed for 45 years is still here for 20 more.

I learned a lot about narrowing your dig point so you cause the smallest amount of damage to the grass/soil. Very clever. I recognized the Hori Hori knife as my husband has one that we use in our garden.

Good video. I usually just use the pop it method with a brass probe or old screwdriver on shallow targets . Probe the coin with the probe and feel for the edge with the probe and once you find the edge get the probe under it and pry and they pop out. Your method gives another tool to the belt if the pop method doesn't work.

Rob I am just learning my NOX 800 which I purchased in June, I'll have to try this method out as I was told by another digger that the base of the shaft was in target, but i was digging four to five inches away from the actual item. :) I am gonna call you cuts in the grass your "C Section" as that's what it reminds me of.. I also purchased a Hori Hori tool from Home Depot for $ 13.00 dollars and I am anxious to go for another dig. It was 104 in the shade yesterday and that makes a hunt difficult.

Hmmm…I think I came from digging some curb strips. Sometimes wear it as a safety measure and to deter others from asking too many questions.

You mentioned using tones to identify iron. Why couldn't you just rely on the target ID?
@TheHistoryDigger13 жыл бұрын
I use both but tones are far more telling snd descriptive than target if. It takes longer to tune your ear but it saves so much time cc’s digging trash.
