That was a great tribute! I enjoy watching your videos because of your enthusiasm, your love of the history of it but also because of the respect you have for all of the soldiers. I am a huge WWII history lover and I have the honor of working daily with a 97 year old German Jew who fled Germany around 1937 to come to the U.S. He finished school here right about the time that the U.S. entered the war and he immediately joined the Reserves and ended up attached to the Big Red One. He landed on Omaha Beach on DDay and survived but was wounded about one month later. The shrapnel that hit him killed his buddy and I don't know how he made it to a MASH unit before bleeding out. He was operated on and given about one month to heal before they sent him back. Due to him speaking German he ended up in Intelligence where his job was questioning and interrogating German soldiers who either were captured or had surrendered. He stayed until the end of the war where he then returned to the U.S. to attend college, get married and have a son. He is such an amazing man with determination and will power like none other I have ever met. We celebrated his 97th birthday last November and he has got many more years in him, God willing. We talk about his time in WWII often and I tell him about my love of watching your videos and the things you uncover. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy watching your videos and that your genuine love for the history and your respect for all soldiers is very obvious and it makes watching you that much more enjoyable. Thank you for all of the work you put into the videos and I hope to see many more!!!

Wow.. what an amazing story!! You are really lucky you know that man.. and he is lucky he knows you, because talking about it is a really good thing! I have met some U.S. veterans from the 30th infantry division Old Hickory that liberated my town in 1944, i gave them chocolate, and a rose. And also a shell casing i found in the village.. because i knew, it was from their division. They were really happy with it.. i was about 14 years old at the time. I asked them for a autograph, and gave them a letter.. on the letter was my address, so we could write each other. I had contact with some of the veterans for a long time.. we did sent each other christmas cards, and shared stories with each other. I have met them in person a couple times when they came to my town on a trip, and i asked them to sign a helmet,a and they did.. I still have it, and will never EVER sell it.. it's a really special and personal helmet now. I even wrote and sung a song for them.. And then.. the writing stopped.. they are in a better place now.. and will always be in our hearts! I will never forget the day i met them.. I'm glad there are people ( like you ) who talk to heroes like that, show interest, and the most important one.. respect! You have an amazing story there, and a true hero.. i'm glad he survived the war, and he's healthy now! He's strong and let's hope he reaches way above the 100! Tell him i have a lot of respect for him! Really nice to hear you like my videos, it means a lot! :) More videos coming, i won't stop! Gr Nick

One of the Best Metal Detecting History Videos ever! This must be shown at schools, must be an example for all that unreal, crazy and questions leaving war madness, that had left so many families behind... It must be an example for the long, long time that has passed, before exactly disvovered the area, where he fought his last fight, wich was forgotten a few days later, when the next and last crazy Operation of the War started...and ended all last propaganda of the "Endsieg-Dreams".... It must be written in books, that there are sometimes only some "Digger Moments", wich could be the only way to tell a waiting, loving family, what and where it happened to the beloved son, Brother, father or husband... I can only speak for myself, that i never found a field grave or human remains of a soldier, but i know, i would not be a grave robber. Metal Detectorists like you Nick, and, if higher Power decides, me too, we honor with deep respect and shaking hands the memory of a human being, wiped out of his not long life.... It may left 70 years behind and my grandfather will be one of the last to tell a Witness Story of the World War Front... It may seems far away and the names where gone.... It may seems easy for somebody taking the artifacts and dogtags away, because of "i don't know him, it is left 70 years behind, so, who cares?" - Thinking and Excusing for having a greater collection of artifacts or getting the best price.... It is like that person has been killed two Times... First time, whatever happened, in honor and best believes doing right for his country, nation and people.... Second time killed for a few dollars, euros or rubel.... I don't like thinking about it further, that a History would end like this... This Video is the best example for restarting the History with a little Artifact, where it has ended unknown, 70 years ago...and was forgotten to the Day of finding. Nice Video, thanks for sharing and i think "Bennie" is smiling for you and your further Adventures 👍🏻 With a respectful deep bow, Ingo 🤗

Thank you so much for treating that young man and hero with such respect. It’s things like this that makes me so full of sorrow that the United States is heading in the direction it is today. I will willingly fight the rest of my days to carry the torch this young man and many others like him sat at deaths feet all those years ago. On behalf of myself, Mr Bellamy and all of America, thank you.

"Far from being the Great Satan, I would say that we are the Great Protector. We have sent men and women from the armed forces of the United States to other parts of the world throughout the past century to put down oppression. We defeated Fascism. We defeated Communism. We saved Europe in World War I and World War II. We were willing to do it, glad to do it. We went to Korea. We went to Vietnam. All in the interest of preserving the rights of people. And when all those conflicts were over, what did we do? Did we stay and conquer? Did we say, "Okay, we defeated Germany. Now Germany belongs to us? We defeated Japan, so Japan belongs to us"? No. What did we do? We built them up. We gave them democratic systems which they have embraced totally to their soul. And did we ask for any land? No, the only land we ever asked for was enough land to bury our dead. And that is the kind of nation we are". Gen.Colin Powell, U.S. Army. - yquotes.com/quotes/colin-powell/#ixzz6E5nWSqZC

American tags can tell you a bit more than the German I.D. tags. The fact that his serial number starts with a 3 tells you he was drafted. The tags almost always have the persons blood type. It would show on the same line as the serial number to the far right of the tag. If you desired they would also put you religion on the very bottom right of the tag. Some soldiers that were Jewish left that off the tag because they feared it might be used against them though I have never heard of the Germans treating any American Jewish soldiers any better or worse that the others. My Grandfather served in WWII in the 4th Armored Division under General Patton. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. I have his dog tags Purple Heart and other medals. It was a wonderful thing that you took the time to go visit his grave and recognize the sacrifice he made so that others could live in freedom.

Thank you very much for your comment! Pretty strange this tag has no blood type.. it's pretty important.. i can't find tags without them. Really nice you have all the stuff from your Grandfather.. a lot of respect for him!! We will never forget what they have done for us! Gr Nick

Yes, i was blown away when i found it.. but when i found out he was KIA.. it suddenly was a really sad find. I don't think he was killed there, but was siting in a fox hole drinking some coffee, waiting to go into battle. I found a coffee ration next to to the fox hole, so maybe.. it was his last coffee.. Thanks for your comment! Gr Nick
