worth noting that if your switch account region is not UK but you have the PAL physical version, you have to change your region to UK, download the language packs, then go back to whatever region you were in.

Since Integral has certain JP elements in it like weapon/item descriptions, I'd recommend a first timer to go for the US version. That said, it's sad that DuckStation is still the best way to experience this classic.

Unfortunately, the US version of Metal Gear 1 isn't on the collection. You can only pick between the European and US versions.

I'm talking about downloading the US NTSC version of MGS1 (not the MSX Metal Gear 1 game) and playing that, instead of Integral, because of the aforementioned JP elements. The US version of MGS1 (1998) is in the Master Collection, under Game Selection ---> Metal Gear Solid (1st option) ---> English (US) (6th option from the top). That's the version I'd recommend newcomers to play.

The voice acting is ok, compared to modern games everyone is overselling their roles to me. Like a Saturday morning cartoon. Good for it's time, but these days I expect more natural sounding voice acting. Twin Snakes does the same overselling but with its cut scenes, with Snake pulling off some overly elaborate moves for the situation compared to the original 🤔 Which look quite silly at times 😂 I like the games but time hasn't been kind.

Just grabbed the game on switch. Holy crap those cutscenes are terrible. The chop is incredible.
