MGS PW was such a phenomenal game and everyone felt like a big family. Stuff like this is why the fall of MSF was so brutal and gave MGSV its darker tone. If Konami had any sense, they would remake the game with full HD graphics and rendered cutscenes like Twin Snakes.

The reason why this anime look fits so well paired with the briefing tapes is because Peace Walker was essentially a Shonen manga video game, and developed by Kojima as such. It had a specific intention to go for the Japanese teenager market as it was for the PSP. But it worked out so brilliantly. The light-heartedness of this release is quite a stark difference to its direct sequel MGSV. Both games are related but fundamentally very different in their target audience and scope. I'd love to see Konami return to a Peace Walker style game again for the MGS franchise.

TrueFriends HelpMoveBodies I can see why it would be jarring, but keep in mind that Naked Snake was not always keen on reading the newspaper or keeping up with current events beyond the scope of his own missions. Often times he had to rely on information provided to him by his support team - as he did in MGS3 - to learn about aspects of the outside world beyond his present mission. He almost never watched movies, and was quite obsessed with satiating more literal hunger over a thirst for knowledge. This isn't to say he was an idiot at the time, and he was actually quite well travelled by the time Peace Walker began. At this point, however, it appears Snake found it easier to play stupid or keep quiet until the time was right. He had no need to flaunt his intelligence, and actually may have considered doing so to be disadvantageous.
