@@glenngriffon8032 Do you have any idea where the "zum" sample is originally from? I was just watching The Jerky Boys: Don't Hang Up, Tough Guy! on KZbin, and at 31:13 I heard the "zum" sample. It's unmistakable! I knew I had heard it in MGS, so I skipped through the soundtrack and found it! It's interesting to note that both MGS and Chrono Cross came out a few *years* after that Jerky Boys release (July 4, 1995). This theme really speaks about the room. The room is, arguably, rather simple and is largely just a holding for a giant mech with the only real room to enter being on the top. But the thing is, Rex has been built up through the whole game, through videos and images, with everyone giving a idea of just what makes this thing so necessary to stop. After navigating and getting through a long, painful path, surviving untold amounts of dangers, you finally come upon it. The theme practically echoing how close to finality you are in the game. It is, also essentially the final room you can access so your basically at ground zero of the inevitable climax of this game. I remember when I was younger, silently hoping to myself I didn't have to fight it just cause of how intimidating Rex was.

They made many changes to Twin Snakes I didn't care for. The most egregious I think was the redone cutscenes that had Snake jumping around like Spider Man and pulling off superhuman feats of badassery on the tank and the Hind. It really ruined the atmosphere of the game and shattered the illusion that Snake was just an ordinary person. I mean, he was pulling off jumps that ninja couldn't and you still expect me to believe he's the BAD twin? Nah bro. Just.... nah

He was never just another guy. The feats he pulled during the Shadow Moses Incident were stuff of the legends. I agree that it doesn't need to be stressed in cutscenes though.

Twin Snakes was an inferior game in almost every way compared to the original one, besides graphics. And I'm not comparing the original game with TTS through nostalgia glasses. The original voice acting was way better and more passionate, some of the MGS 2 mechanics in TTS made the game too easy and pretty much broke some of the missions and although the soundtrack in TTS was pretty cool, the original had a better one hands down. And TTS' cut scenes were excessively ridiculous (even with MGS standard) with Solid Snake jumping on missiles etc. I know MGS has never been too keen on realism, but TTS really takes the cake what comes to over the top action scenes.

I use an mp3 player for music, I don't like streaming it. Rex's Lair is on my mp3 player. A few weeks back I was in Chicago, one of the museums there has the world's biggest T-rex, nicknamed "Sue." The Metal Gear series does such an excellent job at building up dread for each and every boss battle against these Metal Gears. MGS1 did such a fantastic job at making Metal Gear REX seem impossible to defeat.

@Marco Paolo I have played MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, MGS:PW and MGR (The only mainline game I didn't play was MGSV). Even after having played all of these games, I found Metal Gear REX to be the best Metal Gear in terms of build up. And the boss battle is also really good. Requires being on your toes and timing chaff grenades while moving to position the stinger, and making sure the missiles don't hit Snake. I found the other Metal Gears to be cool to fight, don't get me wrong, but I find REX to be the coolest MG simply for being built up really well, it's cool design, and the tense boss battle. I agree with you, Metal Gear is a really cool game franchise. So much personality and wit put into each game. I feel like I could just play each game over and over again.

This game was WAY ahead of it's time. And we are now entering into the age where a lot of the stuff in this game is going to start coming to life. I've been watching the military and science channel a lot lately, and man, it's as if Hideo Kojima predicted everything that the U.S. military is just now beginning to work on. Nano-machines, Robotics with legs, Cypher-style UAV's and even Stealth fucking camouflage. These things are fucking REAL!!!
