@@CM_4422 Oh yes, because wanting a school system to teach topics actually worth a damn instead of pointless garbage that has no necessity of being retained is “selfish”. Don’t know about the rest of the world, but this message rings true in America. I’m sorry, why the hell is it required to take 4 math and science courses while cooking is an elective course when it’s a necessary survival skill? Genuinely, 80-90% of what I learned in school was worthless and until that statement is reversed where majority of what’s taught in school is useful, this song will still remain timeless.

@@maturinthecosmicturtle6783 you just proved my point. ‘I’ll never use this’ Im sorry you didn’t like it but you don’t account for everyone. Many people will study Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, Geography etc. and be inspired to go on to pursue a career related to it. Also there are literally form groups in the UK where you are taught about taxes, student loans, finance, safekeeping etc.

My advice. Learn a trade, get your commercial driver's license. It may not be a happy life, but you'll always have work. It'll make you enough money to live comfortably and pursue hobbies that will engage you and make you happy. Either that or like... pretty much any medical field that cannot be automated. Xray Technician, Lab Technician (if you can handle needles and blood). Don't get a degree in any of the arts, you'll be getting a degree in unemployment. From a guy that's been out of school for... goin on 10 years now, and been almost homeless for about 3 years, which getting my Class 1 (Tractor Trailer license) saved me from. It's not particularly nice work, but it pays quite a bit better than minimum.

Yeah, high school was useless. We should at LEAST pick our own subjects, and have life lesson kinda subjects. Luckily, in my high school, we had textiles and food tech, so we cooked and shit. And college actually teaches you some stuff about real life, but its just a glorified high school (and I got kicked out of HS after 2 years lmao) Since fully being out of school, I've felt much happier about life, and have been able to learn the things I wanted to learn. So, school really does need to change a lot of shit. Or at least have other paths for kids to take, instead of just one type of school lmao

@evvte
@evvte 3 жыл бұрын
no, it's referring to the subjects. Don't stay in school means those subjects should not stay in school as a compulsory subject.... Quote from the last line of the song: "And insist these pointless things *Don't stay in school*" that is him referring to the subjects, not students.

@@evvte Yes, that is the meaning of that phrase in the last line of the song, but there's a reason it's the title of the song. It's intended to catch the attention not of students (why would students listen to a video title?) but of educators and parents who would be outraged at the seeming message of "Don't Stay in School" and watch the video, only to maybe be proven wrong.

Its weird how it mostly seems to depend on the school district. I know for my school district you test into a program that gave you more options. We had a single semester for each class that was required by the state. So I done with all of my high school basics by sophomore year since we had alternating schedules during the week. We also had an extra year added. This made it so that you could exclusively take community College classes for the last three years. Some people used it to get an associates. Since I wanted to get my bachelors at university and none of the classes would transfer. I went through the catalog with my grandma to pick any interesting classes and stuff that would have skills I would need in life.

Love a lot of Dave's (Boyinaband) work. Seriously check more of him out! Spectrum is a great song! Post Vid Edit: And that's what he wanted with that song btw, for people to sit, think, and voice the concerns. So don't be afraid of the controversy, speak your minds.

He’s spot on, even in Australia the schools teach out of date stuff, and practical everyday topics are ignored.

I have trauma from going daily to the place that taught me nothing while sitting with other kids dealing with their own trauma on a daily bases with no help for it, being stuck staring at a teacher telling us how numbers work, then being ridiculed by trying to dress or act in comforting ways to get by. The teachers raised us and at least 50% of them were not suited to raise us. So i see the "don't stay in school" bit as meaning a lot more than just school reform. I wish I had the choice to actually go somewhere where my time mattered rather than dragging myself to the edge of the road at 6 every morning to get on a bus to hell for hours at a time

That song was my literal ANTHEM in 9th grade. I was so mad ab having to go is listen to it every day. For one, he’s the ONLY reason I knew the quadratic formula. Two, every word is correct and I still fully agree and love this song

So fun fact about money the paper money that we use is actually more often than not made of recycled Jean fabric it’s something like a 70% cotton mix that goes into making our paper money that’s why we can wash money in the laundry by accident and not have it just disintegrate

I was fortunate enough to be raised in an area of the US with excellent public schools. In my senior year, we did go through a scenario where we had to get "married" to another student, then work up what our finances would be based on notional jobs we could get with our current education level, balanced against local living costs (rent/insurance/food/etc). It was set up to be largely independent, with most of the "work" being outside of school--it was a very eye-opening experience. I recall the relief on a rental agent's face when my "wife" and I explained to her that this was a school assignment and we weren't actually married & looking to rent, or another student trying to rationalize skipping dental insurance because "you grow out of cavities, right?" That said, it was still a far cry from actually preparing me for what it was like to actually adult in America, and I recognize that many school systems in the US don't even go that far.

Seeing this takes me back lol. I remember thinking this in college too. It seemed useless for me, a social work major, to require the subjects I had to take. Like.. Geology with a lab about rocks? Okay.

I remember years ago a school saw his music video and this encouraged them to change the curriculum at their school. Apparently that change was really successful. many other teachers have also used his video for reference as for why changes need to be made in the classrooms

I heard this song a few years back and touch back on it from time to time and yet it wasn’t until today when you pointed it out that he says the 30 universal rights,.. i didn’t pick up on that distinction, and i didn’t know it existed either. Very cool! BTW boyinaband has been going through some tough times lately with his depression, if you can contact him as a youtube content creator send him some love for the song. Nice messages can mean a lot for someone struggling. First time on your channel this is cool, i will check out more of your stuff! Thanks for the video. PS if you want more Dave content check out his “diss on Prince Ea, you don’t have depression”. Brilliantly done, he rips a new hole in the dude.

The line is "and insist these pointless things dont stay in school" referring to subjects or topics not students. This song is universal. In Canada we have learned a few things Dave hasnt but mostly the things he has learned. Im 24, I dont know how to work with creditors yet or much about credit. Which is something i wish i would have learned in school.
