Thank you Paul and crew for posting these videos. They have helped with understand the reason as to why certain things need to be done. Currently building a Rans S-21 in Northern California.

Another good edge forming tool is the Cleaveland EF-60 - rather than using your hand to adjust how much you form the edge, the EF-60 tool is adjustable which (for me) makes for more reproducible results. Thanks for this series - I never fail to learn something!

Thank you for another great video!! I'm planning on scratch building a Hummel Ultracruiser. Your metal working series is just what I was looking for!! Will you be doing any videos on metal forming? Like bulkheads or ribs! Thanks in advance from a long time magazine subscriber!

Hi, Bob. It's not in our immediate plan but definitely something we could consider for a more advanced series in the future.

Any relation to an English Wheel ? I remember seeing a video on the restoration of a Lancaster, and a woman using the tool to form the curves of the wing tips.

Can you do an edge forming before dimpling ? Thanks for the videos.

Generally speaking, yes. You can edge roll or dimple in either order, so long as the edge of your dimple doesn’t interfere with the edge roll. If the holes are too close to the edge, it gets a bit dicey, so make sure that you have good edge distance!

I’m having an issue with inspection covers. I will often find that after tightening the screws that hold the inspection cover the leading edge raises up a little bit leaving a small gap between the cover and the wing surface. This can’t be good for drag or for keeping rain or debris from entering that gap. Would you use a similar tool to curve the leading edge to set flush with the surface? Or is there another technique I might use?

Paul says: You can use an edge roller for this, but it takes a very gentle touch - and practice! I’d cut an inspection cover out of the same thickness of material and practice on it before doing it on your real part - especially if the part is already painted.
