I'd have to say this version is my favourite. This song feels perfectly suited to an orchestral setting. Lately, I've been really appreciating the vocal layering and depth in SuJu's music generally, and I think I like this version for a similar reason. The orchestra provides depth, layering and musical adlibs in a way that elevates it to something really special and powerful.

I really like both. The buildup to the high note gives me goose bumps every time! SM has started releasing orchestral versions of their songs under this SM Classics banner and they are all really great but this is the first one I've seen with vocals. Deservedly so for Ryeowook.

I like both versions, because the main thing are the vocals, but the orchestra makes it special, gives it class and gravitas, which make the song and vocals shine even more, like a beautiful setting of a gemstone. So I like it even more. ❤

Wookie's voice is one of the clearest and most beautiful I have had the pleasure of hearing and being accompanied by an orchestra I think makes everything an incredible experience. ❤

Sublime and gorgeous -his voice just floats over the instruments. So glad he did this version. A timeless song . Thank you for reacting to it,. ⁠​⁠@@Killdeer25Yes please! Two songs mentioned are very emotional. ‘Wings’ is happy and uplifting. He also has a famous Trot genre song written by GD ‘Look at me Gwisoon’. Hilarious mv. Inspiration was GD and Seungri were on a blind dating show, and the girl picked Seungri! GD was a bit taken aback, hence this song. Mv for ‘Shutup’ excellent as well. Somebody sometime has to explain to me though how adult men in kpop are able to sing with such high falsettos. It may partly be due because they are more petite on average, but many can even do it if they have normal speaking voices. I read that high voices are preferred in kpop so teenage girls can sing along to the songs, but the performances often surpass their range by far! One female idol said one part was so high she could only do it in the studio lying down in order to open her throat enough. And the preference for unnaturally high voices is much older in Asia than kpop, see eg Chinese opera. So it must be special technique and training. Leeteuk once showed an exercise to strengthen his diaphram which looked quite brutal, where he had to sing while lifting his legs up on parallel bars. No wonder he has the strongest belt in SuJu!

There is a few ways to accomplish this, it's probably the reason why they start young, you have a better chance of keeping it, being slim and petite can also help for sure, a big part of it might just be biological, thr lead singer of Judas Priest is a good example, he has just always had a higher singing voice too. If you practice and keep it you can keep it easier too.

@@Killdeer25 In western pop I can only recall a few, eg Adam Levine of Maroon 5 (which kpop covers a lot) and Michael Jackson, who had a huge influence on kpop in general, but tbh Jacksons voice was very weak live.

@aligensa you're not wrong, he was mainly a dancer, he had to have his mics turned up and a lot of backup dancers. Sadly I think there is a few other singers that could pull from and have just as nsig of an effect

There is good, there is great, and then there's Ryeowook! Thanks so much, when I suggested this I didnt think youd do a reaction for it, just check it out for yourself. Their treatment of artists may not necessarily be better than other big companies, but where quality is concerned, SM are a cut above everyone else. They have spoiled me. And SuJu have spent their long career constantly putting work into their craft, developing and reinventing themselves all the time like nobody else has. It makes me sad if people don't see or appreciate that.

I knew I had to, I love orchestral stuff like this! It's true! Honestly, I don't think any of the big three are particularly clean in that department but yeah, SM knows how to get the best out of vocalists. Honestly the only person who might be able to keep up with Ryeowook might be Kyuhun haha

And Yesung, even though he sings in a different style. But its not just vocals, its dance, visuals, videos and concepts, of which the idea of doing orchestra versions is the best example. They think big and they deliver! Suju from the outset were cast and trained as allround entertainers and in 2023 they were still the kpop group with the highest media presence in Asia, not just as an idol group, but acting roles, variety shows etc. I saw that myself, when I was in Seoul and turned on the TV I saw four of them within one hour. Their general entertainment skills add a lot to their music performances as well.
