Seriously. I did the VIP, meet-and-greet, on the Sin & Sentence tour. That was when Matt barely started out on Twitch. I told him I subbed to his channel and watched him all the time, the excitement on his face and in his eyes. I told Alex "welcome to the family", same expression as Matt.... So incredibly humble and genuine. All of them.

I met them during The Ascendancy tour (was that the name?) like 15 years ago now...I was only 14 lol but my japanese friend was super into them. They were nice then too! I think they've been doing the metal game for long enough they have the belief in themselves to be good so they don't take themselves too seriously...but they're all nice people who support those without the platforms & voices they enjoy. Llike i fucking love Shogun & it's forever in my top 10 albums but holy shit Trivium's last 2 albums have no right being as good as they are, esp at this stage in their career. If Album #10 keeps up the quality and adds something new...like forget people saying "They were the new Metallica". They're Trivium & deserve their own place in those hallowed pantheons.

Saw Trivium live here in New Zealand and the drummers kick pedals broke mid song, they stopped the song to see what happened then magically from the crowd they got handed some more pedals, even the singer was like "wtf? Where'd those come from?"

To think that in the back of Matt's mind he had a vision for Trivium and none of the old drummers they had cut it. Now we have Trivium in full maturity. It's actually quite musically astounding how much they improved from TSATS to this new Record.

The Thing about it is the Trivium guitar players are just so technically gifted, their drummers were good enough for other bands but none of them were as technically gifted as Corey, Matt and Paolo.

I think Travis absolutely smashed on Ascendancy and Shogun, but after he left it took them some time to find the perfect follow up. Alex is the perfect follow up though. Hope he sticks around for a while

yeah Shogun had mad 80s metal vibes with the commitment to use 80's style harsh vocals instead of just screaming and then clean singing like every metalcore band was doing. Not only that but the riffs were really chunky like the old days. Nowadays people are very fixated on trying to sound technical and jazzy which is fine but I do miss the chunky riffs from the old days.

I do miss their light groove speed metal riffs like from Ascendancy, Ember to inferno, and Shogun but I think their new ways of writing riffs is a really appropriate evolution of riffage. It's still heavy, but it's much more groove based with a lot of prog in it. I absolutely love it, they've become so sophisticated.
