Metal Slug Modelkit Comparison | official SNK vs Unlicensed

Here is a comparison between the two modelkits of the Metal Slug tank currently available. The grey one is the unlicensed Chinese version (unpainted), the green one is the officially licensed one from SNK Japan (I colored this one in nato green). The original is closer to SNKs artworks for the very first game. The one from China is looking more like the in-game model, aka "cuter". Both are great kits. SNKs kit is easier to assemble and has perfectly fitting parts, but needs coloring badly, while the other one has some irregularities in plastic quality and mold and is harder to build (due to the extra moveable parts) but that one does not need any color at all to look good. The unlicensed one probably went for the look of the first Metal Slug intro and its box art but the licensed one went for the in game look.

I don't think that the gray one is an unlicensed bootleg. Even if it is, the design seems to come from the Xinshi Model kits which are officially licensed by SNK and have JAN codes as-well. The companies social media accounts also claims an official licensing. Like, it's really easy to assume that it's just some random Chinese bootleg, until one considers that SNK has very long and strong relationship with the Chinese market. I mean, they officially licensed a high quality Manhua adaptation of KOF that started in the 90s and had a crazy long run (perhaps longer than of any other Video-Game based property). The King of Fighters animated show, is (unsurprisingly) also produced in China, and was meant first and foremost for Chinese audiences. Most of the SNK shares now belong to Tencent at this point (Not that it's a good thing, but still a fact no-less). Isn't TunShi Studio the company behind the Metal Slug figurines Chinese as-well?

It’s funny how people like the YH model on the left verses the wave on the rite. The wave model kit looks a lot better to me than the YH because the tank treds are much better proportion and the tred guard on the YH looks a little ridicules to me by how far it comes down. The turret size and angle make the wave look a lot more life like as well. What I mean by life like is that it is capable of human like motions such as when you where hit in the video game the turret would do a swaying motion downwards somewhat similar to what a human would if it had taken a blow. The wave looks like it would have the same effect as in the video game while the YH looks stiff even though it has more articulation vs the wave because of the proportions and angles on the wave overall.
