This is some real knowledge, I love to see these projects come to life and rather see them restored instead of just sent to the wrecker. nice work guys keep up the good work

Thanks, Simon! It takes a village for sure and certainly more knowledge than I have on my own. Love working with other people.

Ok.. I've got two tips that I hope will help you or any viewers interested in rust repair or panel replacement... for air saw blades I just buy a quality hacksaw blade and cut it to the length I need... cut it with tin snips from the back to the teeth..you could grind it down to make it not as tall as the standard hacksaw blade to do curved cuts.... and the very best way I've discovered for separating panels is a plain old gasket scraper... if you hold it at the right angle you can "carve" right around a spot weld without doing anything else. Keep it sharp...If you're removing an outer pane,l a 1/4" thick grinder disc on a cut off grinder to thin the metal around the spot weld makes it easier to cut and causes less distortion on the panel behind.... if you want to have a hole to weld a plug weld through in the panel behind I drill an 1/8 hole first then use a step drill to take it to the size of the spot weld or or the size of the plug weld you want... Mr. Gasket scraper can break the panels lose.... I have 40 years experience in production collision repair and these methods have proved to be the most efficient way for me.. also when there's rust you HAVE TO... always get rid any rust in the repair area. Usually abrasive blasting is the best way to kill all the rust when it's pitted.. any rust left behind WILL come back to haunt you! I hope this will help you or any of the viewers.. Neil Young says "rust never sleeps" but I'm sure that that reference is lost on folks your age.. ask your dad... lol. Best of luck on UBTK5!

jeff pitzer thanks for all the suggestions. I actually edited Mike’s segment and he mentioned using hacksaw blades, but that ended up being one of only a couple that got trimmed.
@michaelchastain97275 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if Mike Howe knows this or not, but a regular hack saw blade will fit in his or any air saw. You can buy a pack of hack saw blades lots cheaper than the air saw specific saw blades and you can break them to any length you want to use and they will fit in the air saw. I’ve been doing that for years.
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS5 жыл бұрын
He does know that and actually included it in his part of that video, but it's one of the very few things I had to trim in editing. smh (at myself).

Loved the video! Out of curiosity, how much would a repair like that run somebody? My K5 is eaten away in the exact same spots, as they do haha
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Labor on something like that would definitely run a $1k or more but the patch panels aren't that expensive.
