Very nice video. The blackening technique has been shown before on other tubes. What I enjoy is your professionalism on your build and paint techniques. Waiting for the next one. Thanks

Great content! I leave the tracks in solution for a lot longer to get them quite blacken. I find that a better start to further weathering. Just my preference. Thanks for this awesome video!

Hi James, Sorry I missed the premier but work got in the way. Good tutorial on using the blacking chemicals. I used a single pack blackening agent years ago on whitemetal railway kits. Nice to put a face to the name too. Look forward to the weathering video. Will probably be at work though but will of course catch up later. Best wishes, Mark

The tracks turned out nice and I loved your opening segment. As you know from watching my channel and videos... I love me some funny and creative "B" roll! The only thing I have to say is why the need for the 2 component chemical process. Other blackening solutions work just the same and it's a 1 shot deal without having to boil water as well. All in all, it worked really well though. Looking forward to the weathering video. Cheers!

Well done there LPJ! Loved the kitchen joke! You could also have degreased the tracks after the activating bath (using styrene cement) but it worked fine in the end! Great use of pigments and binders!
@lpjmodels

Thanks VMS ! Does the degreasing affect the process a lot? It was pretty straightforward and I'm really pleased with the results nonetheless!

You might want to experiment with weak acids, such as ketchup, vinegar, and orange juice, to see what kind of job they do blackening metal. I've blackened chrome-molybdenum steel (which is a "stainless" steel) with ketchup, even thought it's very resistant to oxidation.

Interesting! I'm not sure what the activator did to the metal... I've only used the blackening solution from AK which didn't require neither warming up nor any other activating step. I did a degreasing first, though. For that I have used isopropyl alcohol.

That looks very good, and interesting with the metal chains. Since I've been doing a larger scale for 6 years now, in 1:16 RC models from Heng Long, but I don't use metal chains, how would you paint standard hard plastic chains / age them with colors. (With me) First they are treated with matt black and then with a dark trackwash effect from AK74. After drying, the bare parts of the chains are aged with Gun Metal from Mig Jimenez. I have my problems with pigments, in some small places it still works, such as the exhaust system, tools, jacks, etc. Keep it up, I like your Panzer IV Ausf. F1

I already bought that PzKpfw IV Ausf F1 Vorpanzer and preordered the brand new Ausf H. Precisely the tracks parts is what I'm more doubtful about, the original ones really worth the effort or should I order metallic ones?

Interesting techniques, but - as with the last video - the music is sooo 'dramatic' and intrusive that it actually distracts from my following of your commentary. After last week's video I felt like I'd sat through 30 minutes of generic action movie end credits. There's so much free to use music out there, surely there must be something a little less pounding and exhausting? Something that compliments rather than overwhelms what you do?
