They have a whole series of “Evolution “ songs. Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ariana Grande - they do them all in one take and they are so good!

I hope they'll continue to stick around for a long time, but if they ever do break up, I hope they manage to do an Evolution of Pentatonix medley as their last song together. It would be a bittersweet but very appropriate way to end it, and I don't think anyone else could do a better job than they could with such a task.

This was their first "Evolution of...", in 2013. Their other evolutions are for single artists -- "Evolution of..." -- "...Beyoncé" (2014), "...Michael Jackson" (2016), "...Rihanna" (2018) and "...Arianna Grande" (2019). Their "90's Dance Medley" (2021) is a similar-style medley. And fans have done side-by-sides for all of these, with the PTX video and sound on one side and clips from the original artists on the other, which helps you appreciate the real complexity of these medleys.

I was born in the 50's so I grew up with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Moody Blues The Monkees, Purple Harum, Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, Janis Joplin, The Mamas and the Papas, Jefferson Airplane, and lots of others. It was a great time for music, it was the Age of Aquarius, hippies, pot and speed, LSD, protests, atom bombs, the Vietnam War . SOOO much change happened during those thirty years from the 60,'s on. I'm actually surprised I survived it all!

I’m 100% glad that the ‘60s and the ‘70s were my generation’s music. R&B, Folk, and Rock were my genres. My age group was lucky to have such a rich amount of music to form our coming-of-age. So much of today’s music that I love, has been influenced by the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Great reaction, John!

Was not expecting history to go as far back as it did. Monk chants? They really know their musical history. They can also sing any song, any style and any genre. They are a special group. Their Evolutions are one take minimal editing. They do a few takes and publish the best one. They do some of them live.

For non-Christmas music, the Hollywood Bowl concert in 2022 is a kind of 10-year retrospective. It was professionally recorded and they had a paid "live" stream. Some fans captured the stream and have posted on YT, especially Miles Reuben, but he has separate songs and I don't know if the whole concert is available in one video.

New music included Janis Joplin, Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Queen, King Crimson, Linda Ronstadt, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Crosby Still Nash & Young, Dylan, Joan Baez, Tom Waite, En Vogue, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Gladys Knight, Billy Joel ... As with a few others who've commented, I grew up in the 60's and 70's, and in San Francisco, which was quite the place to be. I was lucky enough as a young teen to be at the very last Beatles concert, which took place in my hometown. My father took me for my 16th birthday to see Simon & Garfunkel in a totally acoustic concert right when they were starting to hit big. Those were just 2 of the shows. Then I married a man who was in the music business (as crew and management) and ended up at some pretty darn iconic concerts over the years. As someone said, the 60's were a time when the old music concepts were pushed aside in favor of a whole new world of sound. My innovative, pioneering generation, in more than just music.

I was born in 1971, and I would not change it for anything, as far as music goes. Right as I was getting old enough to appreciate music, the 80s were starting, and all the hits from the 70s were still being played. Then through the first part of the 90s, I stayed in dance bars. Then got married and had children, and kind of lost touch with music, most of that had to do with developing migraines in my late teens, and any prolonged sound of any volume would set off a migraine. But I can listen to PTX with no problem.

They have several "Evolution of..." songs, but this is the only one for general music (sadly, because it'd be great to see an updated one), the rest are for specific artists: Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Ariane Grande and Rihanna. Then on top of that Superfruit (Mitch & Scott) have a couple too for Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, and a few non-evolution medleys for different albums (Beyonce's self-titled album, Taylor Swift's 1989, Rihanna's Anti, and Empire the TV show), oh and the Frozen medley with special guest appearance from Kirstie...and previous wine. I can't remember if you have checked out any of Superfruit yet, but I highly recommend it, Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1 + 2 are especially fun, I guess they could be considered medleys but they don't have the same flowing arrangement as the others.

And on and on. I was our Junior Class President, so it was our duty raise money to put on the Jr/Sr Prom. There was one group the band played a song from that holds a very special place in my heart. Since my parents were coerced to be chaperones. My date let me dance with my mom to Logins and Messina's 'Your Momma Don't Dance (and Your Daddy Don't Rock 'N Roll). Good memories!

Born 68, grew up with 60s and 70s music and spend my teenage years with the 80s....ALL of the 80s. Was hanging out with a local hard rock band but listened to everything under the sun. The music was so diverse. In the charts there was Metal beside New Wave and Pop. In Germany we've had something that's been called "The new German wave" (Nena even had success in the states) From age 16 to 20 I had a real music lover as a boyfriend and we've seen sooo many great bands....From AC/DC to Metallica, from Berlin to Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Jeff Healy, Huey Lewis and the News, Mötley Crüe and Gary Moore, Queen and U2, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, Prince and Marillion, Foreigner...I've seen them all. And I call myself very lucky because of it. Of course it sucks to get older, but man...I wouldn't trade those times for youth.

I was born in 1964, so the 80s were my era - when I was really discovering music and learning to love it! I discovered Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac around 1983 and instantly fell in love! I've only been to two real concerts in my life - Duran Duran and Cyndi Lauper! Both were in the 80s and I LOVED both of them! So I think I was born in the perfect era for me! I got to experience (via the radio) the best of the 60s and 70s as well as all of the greats from the 80s and 90s! Good GOD how I miss those days! But I love how I get to re-experience all of those greats through the eyes of young reactors - such as yourself - as they see them for the first time! It was such a great era to be alive! :)

I grew up in the 50s and 60s. But I never went to any concerts, largely because I wasn't near where they were being given and even if I had been we didn't have money for concerts. But the performer I most wish I'd heard live is John Lennon, after he left The Beatles. John was like a beacon to many in my generation, and "Imagine" was the song that moved us. And for those of us old enough to remember, the shock and grief we felt when John was murdered remain as strong today as they were nearly 43 years ago.

Been to 3 concerts. The Hollywood Bowl was iconic but was the first concert back after COVID, the Christmas Spectacular which was awesome but like you missed some of the originals, and the 2023 Summer Tour at Irvine my fav. I lived the dream, so I wouldn't wish to be born in a different era. I was fresh out of high school and working in a record store with a Ticketmaster computer in 1984-5. I got to listen to everything (we just opened albums and played them in the store if we were curious) and see EVERYBODY (usually with great seats because the tickets that weren't originally on sale for "promotional" reasons would get tossed back on sale at the last minute - and we were in the unique position to know it). Also, $25 was an expensive ticket back then, so it's BONKERS to me that people are paying thousands to see today's artists when we didn't have to pay that much to see LEGENDS.

From the POV of what concert we'd have loved to get to, I was born a few years too late -- or realistically, maybe ten years too late, considering I'd have needed to 1) be an adult with a passport who could travel internationally, and 2) have the money to do it -- but if I ever had a chance to hop in a time machine and go anywhere, anytime, for a day, I'd have gone to Queen's Montreal concert in '81. It's all on video so I know what I missed, it's bleepin' awesome, with *the* best version of Somebody To Love that Freddie or anyone else ever did, and I'd kill to be in that audience.

They have a whole set of Evolution videos...Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Lady Gaga(Superfruit), Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus ( superfruit ..I think) plus the did the 90's Dance Medley and Empire medley ( Superfruit) Frozen Medley (Superfruit + Kirstie). All of the Evolution videos are done in one take. They do about 4 takes, review them and decide which one to use. The Empire Medley was paid for by the record contract for the show. It was meant for advertizing I think, but the show got cancelled after the first season. The Frozen Medley is Scott, Mitch and Kirstie having a lot of fun doing what amounts to a half-drunk skit of the highlights of Frozen's songs. It's hilarious and you MUST watch the bloopers at the end.after the big Subscribe screen. Many Superfruit videos have bloopers after.

As for when I would choose to be born, based on music I'd probably choose the late 1950s so I'd be experiencing the 70s in real time as a teen but not be pressured into joining in with the drugs & free love aspect of the 60s. I am actually surprised that you hadn't seen this one yet. It is incredible. I don't have the links. But, the Hollywood Bowl concert has a bunch of footage of it. Did you know ? 4 of the 5 members of the group worked the ticket box office from 11am to 1pm. They sold tickets, milled around the crowd and sang a few songs. The only reason Kirstie wasn't there. She just had her baby girl 3 months prior. How many groups do THAT? I was born in 1967. Graduated in 85. Definitely NOT wild. The concerts I went to were Billy Joel 2x Hall and Oats Little River Band Aerosmith-I didn't even know who they were when I bought the tickets. I just knew my soon to be husband liked them. Foreigner, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band and Jeff Healy A jazz pianist Tom Grant Yes-but I was SUPER sick. ZZ Top was my last one. I was supposed to get to Pentatonix in September. But, sacrifices must be made sometimes for the greater GOOD. I am saving for the next tour. Sorry for the long comment. Oh, I absolutely LOVE your shirt.

Fun reaction! Loved how you have the appreciation for 60’s music..😊. As far as live concerts..I would suggest Pop Spring (older but Epic!). Or the Hollywood Bowl for more recent performance..

Hit my college years in the 80s and there was nothing better than enjoying 70s and 80s music as it happened!

I'm waaaay to knowledgable and interested in history to want to be in any earlier decade haha. Us in the vintage fashion world have an expression. "Vintage fashion, not vintage values". So I'll gladly enjoy the music from the past from the safety of the present, thank you very much haha

I would have loved to been a young adult in the 1940's. The big bands music was my parent's music and i just LOVE it. I was a teen in the 80's GREAT music!

Born in 1966... old GenX- generation of "latch-key-kids" and outside play equal to "Survivor" the 'reality show' 🙄 Why we're so adamant about clinging to "our music" so tight! Nothing today compares.

Musically, I should have been living in the 1930's-40's. Swing? Big band? Jazz? I would have been at the dance clubs every single night.

The sad part is that we had more music previously to the Middle Ages, like Ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt and even Sumeria, but they didn't know how to write music and if they did, we can't interpret it. So many lost songs, specially since Greeks loved theatre. What we have now are popular songs that are probably a ''broken phone'' version of the original ones.

If you want to see the beginnings - check out the Sing Off episodes - that enabled them to get started. There are maybe 13 of them or so - very entertaining - from 2011. You can see them begin to gel as a group. They have done Evolution songs of Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Arianna Grande, Beyonce, and other mashups.

I was a young adult in the 70’s. We had the best music back then! Pentatonix did a great job with this, but I wish they had included songs from Motown. 4 minutes wasn’t long enough. Great review!

Hey John, I hope you even read this message. I'm creating metal versions of existing Tracks. I take only the Vocals and create whole new instrumentals around them. I’m playing all the instruments, mixing and mastering everything by myself. I’m no professional or something, just a passionate songwriter and metalhead
