the anime is different with the common defeat the demon lord trope, its actually about what happens after they defeated them, you should try watching it, it's one of if not the best manga i've read

This series is about a long-lived elf dealing with not only the passing of her comrades, but also the passing of time as a whole. The manga is fucking beautiful and Madhouse did a wonderful job! Eisen is the dwarf's name. =)

Just watched the first four episodes and was literally flashed. It was beautifully animated, storytelling-wise it catched me. Even I did not know much about her comrades the passing hit me hard but they got character development thanks to all those flashbacks throughout the first episodes. And those flashbacks let us understand why Frieren wants to gather all those spells throughout her journey. @JohnReavesLive: Just check it out, this anime could most likely win Anime of the Year so far.

It is more like she's trying to retrace her journey when she's with the hero's party because she realize that even she's with them for 10 years she didn't learn much about them because of her concept of time as an elf. To her 10 years feels like a day or 2 worth of stroll.

Apparently they dropped a 4 episodes set last week. I think they know fans will eat it up. The anime supposed to take a look at the meaning of life, centered on a near immortal elf girl while the person she kinda likes was a human and after passage of time that doesn't means too much to her but already a life time for the human priest as he passed away. I was too busy finishing up "Undead girl murder farce" (which have a pretty good op - by an up and coming kpop group and very nice ed song by Japanese-Amercian or Aussie (not sure which))

Frieren really went all-in with the artists it got for its soundtrack. Yoasobi and Millet are two of the biggest jpop acts atm, and Millet hardly does anime tracks. TV shows, yeah, but I don't think she's done an anime song before this one.

I'm waiting to watch the anime, but I'm reading the manga translation of Frieren and it's one of the best manga I have read in decades. I love fantasy settings, but not those in isekai animes (in the end they're most harem fantasies that are way too comfortable within a set of tropes that I find boring), but no, Frieren is a legit good fantasy manga, with great script, great characters, interesting, fun, and it does not waste time with stupid tropes or fanservice.

Also Frieren is such a great character. I play ttrpgs and I like elves and I have always, in game, thought of some of the topics that this manga/anime deals with head on: the loss of those you love, the difficulty of building attachment to other people if you're pretty much immortal, and what time amounts to you as an elf. The character to me feels as if you mixed Ed from Cowboy Bebop, Nier, from Nier Under 7 (a little known manga/anime from the early 2000s), and you gave her xanax in vein to calm her down.

You really should use subtitles when listening to Yoasobi songs. listening to it without its meaning is a sin. It's like only hearing half the song.

Please watch the anime! The anime is so perfect that it even surpasses the original manga. Knowing the story and understanding the meaning of the lyrics will double the appeal of the song. It's a waste not to know the lyrics.

Yuusha is not really a "brave man" (or god forbid, a "brave") although yes this term consists of these two characters. In Japanese RPG culture, the Yuusha is the special chosen one on whom everyone around entrusts their hopes and resources, who set out on his sole mission to defeat the final evil boss (a non-human being; could be a dragon or a demon lord etc. but for example not a hostile army). In this respect he is better called a "Champion." Calling him a hero / "Eiyuu" is a bit inaccurate as well because only after a champion succeeds he becomes a hero. For example in Frieren, multiple yuushas/champions set out to defeat the demon lord, but only Himmel eventually succeeded. He transformed from a Yuusha to an Eiyuu upon his success. OK, not too many care about this distinction... but calling a yuusha a "brave" is a Google machine translation. And by the way this OP really doesn't match Frieren's tone. Yoasobi should have tried harder. People in the US may not care but many in Asia have already expressed their strong negative views. It's like using EDM or Hiphop for Spirited Away.

@@danielantony1882 Champion in this context does not refer to "the one that has won". He is "the chosen fighter" of the kingdom/village. Do not mix up yuusha and eiyu. Especially this particular manga makes a distinction between these two. Multiple yuushas set out. But only one became the eiyu.
