Excellent review. I have a $250 credit with Blade HQ and I have been torn between the gtx-025 and the Kershaw live wire. Both American made which is important to me. My only gripe is the blade is not very appealing. It’s pretty ugly actually but it’s more about form/function so I can overlook that aspect. As far as the holes in the blade catching gunk and pulling it back into the handle, I have another similar blade and once or twice a day I just use the keyboard cleaner spray to blow out the holes. Works great. I think this review makes my decision much easier. I’m going with the Guardian!

This knife has the smoothest action, of any OTF I’ve ever messed with. I own every series of Microtech, and this knife has such nice action. It does have more blade play than my microtech’s, but the slide mechanism is spot on. I also own other Guardian Tactical knives, and as I mentioned this action is just the bomb

That's odd. My Guardian Tactical Recon-035 seems to have less blade play than my UTX-85 and is much smoother. Also the blade width of my Recon-035 makes my UTX-85 seem ridiculously narrow. In my opinion Guardian Tactical makes Microtech seem inferior. It's kind of crazy because my friend showed me his "UTX-85" and I knew it was a fake right away because it had the hellhound blade which I know Microtech doesn't make with the UTX-85. I don't support cloning or counterfeiting in any way but his fake UTX-85 is smoother than my real with about the same or less blade play. My point to this is that even the cloners are starting to get ahead of Microtech as far as the action is concerned. It's really a shame but it just leads me back to my point of Guardian Tactical feeling superior to Microtech. With all that said, I think Guardian Tactical made a mistake with the dimensions of the GTX-025, specifically the blade to handle ratio. They had a chance to annihilate the UTX-70 but they failed because the blade is similar in length but the handle is significantly longer. They really should have went for a shorter handle or made the blade slightly longer. I really feel they still have a chance to release this same handle with around a 2.75"-3" blade.

@@markr2370I have been on the fence, I mean really really on the fence between a Ultratech Sith and the Recon 035 and have been finding the same thing mentioned about the Beautiful action on the Guardian Tactical’s. I am pulling the trigger on the Recon 035 with the Tanto blade shape iether black handle with stone wash blade or the green with black blade finish ..anyway Thank you along with everyone else who has helped in theier reviews. Still am looking for a smaller back up though ..thinking the para 3 but in the g10 version rather than the light weight. I don’t like the off balance with the handle being so much longer than the blade. I need the balance to be more on point. Apologies for such a long comment.. Do you recommend a smaller back up but the back up being a Spyderco ..a knife that has a good blade to handle length ratio?! ☯️

Not into small knives but I get why people would prefer this size. Looks like a great backup to say, a Dirac Delta.

I thought you reviewed this knife already, I am losing it. The knife wholes didn't bother me until you mentioned how the crap that gets caught it the blade wholes, very well could get inside the knife. I still like it for an easy use EDC knife.

great video otf knives arent my thing but i cant deny they have the uiltimate fidget factor oh and i finally fixed my xm 24 vintage centering i took it apart bent the liner just a tad and that did the trick btw the xm 24 is such an easy knife to take apart and put back together all the hardware feels strong i decided not to safe queen this knife im going to use it then maybe pass it down when im old lol sorry for the long comment have a good day man!

I'd rather have a new look to the knife and then allow the distressed look develop naturally. On this particular knife, I don't like that just the clip and blade are distressed but the handle is pristine and new. Not a very good contrast in my opinion. Best for them to just make the whole knife look distressed. I was looking to get one of these GTX-025 knives as my first small OTF. But I went with a Microtech UTX-70 Blue Single Edge (OTF) Black Part Serrated Blade 148-2 BL instead because I love blue. Which brings up a point about GT, they need to start getting more colors. I saw a nice GTX-35 at BHQ with a blue handle but it was a dagger with no serrations. Also, I'd like to see Guardian Tactical make a Microtech Dirac sort of knife soon. In fact the next knife I will likely buy is a Microtech Dirac Delta.

Fortunately sites like DLT and PVK Vegas always have a healthy supply of Microtechs. It all balances out and people can almost always find what they want.

@@metal_complex Thanks for the replay. I decided to edit out the Blade HQ part of my post, before I saw you had replied. Mainly because I felt it came off as too "whiny". But you are correct in what you say in your reply though. Southern Edges is another smaller dealer where I did get the one I wanted.

I hate when knife makers have pointed backs, if you have it in your back pocket leather seats hate you, if you have it in your front pocket your inguinal crest will hate you....
