I went to highschool with these guys. I was a freshman and they were seniors. I remember ear to ear hitting MySpace when they created their page. It changed the entire scene. Pure unadulterated evil. The rancid filth that I miss from modern metal. No gimmicks, no djent, no annoying vocal olympics, no squeaky clean production, no memes, no fake drums and bass, no bullshit afterthought lyrics written just so the vocalist can do tunnel throats, no holding back. This is the era of deathcore that felt dirty and menacing. It felt unclean to listen to. I miss it so, so much. This direction from WC makes me happy to know that other musicians and composers recognize how insincere, palpable, formulaic, and fake so much of deathcore has become. It is such a breath of fresh air to see that these guys know what made their previous work stand out, and this is coming from someone who loves the Valley and Kin (Mark of the Blade being the only one I couldnt get behind). I am so stoked about this record, and if they do choose to return to some of the more clean, emotional stuff in the future, I hope they can continue to incorporate the type of grisly malevolence this, Somatic Defilement and This is Exile bring forward. Maybe they can teach these newer bands that simply writing a breakdown that sounds like modern Lorna Shore isn't enough to make a song good
