Why you don't like wireless coil? Deus2 is a great metal detector, has a great deep ...In search at sea currently is the n1 as depth and ease of use

Thank you so much Paul! If you are going from an Explorer, I would go Legend first. It is 95% of the capability for 1/3 of the price. Having that said you will be happy with either the Deus 2 or Manticore (or Equinox for that matter). The value is in the Legend. The top of the line performance is in the Manticore or Deus 2.

My thought when I saw the wireless coil. If I’m out in the field and the battery is dead on the head set i can use the external speaker, If the box goes dead i can use a external battery charge and still operate (providing the unit will run while being changed) if the coil goes dead I’m done for the day.

Another great, no BS video! You are the genuine article! I’m an Equinox 800 user and here in the UK, we are forced to ignore the numbers to ID targets. I really only use the numbers to determine if the Nox is trying to lock onto something by giving me the same number amongst jumping numbers. The big take away from your video is to pull the coil back and front tip the target. 👊🏼

@gaz419 Yes, this is how I attempt to quickest pinpoint & target separate with a DD coil. I even sometimes use the back tip for the same reason, to avoid turning 180° around & front tipping, if the best target to dig of multiple targets is furthest away from me.

I have the Deus 2, I’ve used it for about a month in tropical salt water and it got moisture in it which shouldn’t have been possible using the red plug and not close to the max depth of 20m (only in the surf line). It detects great but to be honest target ID is very difficult (maybe only me) because a 10k ring and a pull tab can read the same (33), or a silver item reads the same as a bottle cap(77-80). All these are in sand on the beach or in the surf. The Deus reads pretty deep (12 inches all day easy). So I end up digging almost everything!! lol

Here’s something that is a fact , beach 2 on a nox 800 , sensitivity ti only 15 in house air test on a 916 3 gram ring only can pick up at 4 inches , Now the Manticore with a 11 inch coil , sensitivity to 15 was double that , 8 inches . Great machine’s up to now 💪🏼 The separation of the Nox is next level and the multi frequency of course a major plus compared to the Simplex. The simplex only uses the 15 kHz frequency, which is a great medium ranged frequency. I’m not using it on the beach anymore though… I think the Nokta Legend is a way better option for the frequent beach hunter.

Another great video. BTW, if you have an old coax cable from your tv, use about 2 feet of it for a test. Connect it to the xp coil and bring it up the shaft the remainder 15 inches or so. Put the coil in the tub of water to cover. You should still hear the signals, You should only need to run the coil to the remote if everything is under water. So you can submerge the coil to the end of the cable going up the shaft 15 inches or so as long as the cable end is not submerged.

Merrill, you bring up an interesting aspect of audio. You have trained your ear to listen carefully to the sounds and recognize many of them. You state you like the Deus 2 sounds because they are square waves. Square waves do in fact produce a great deal of harmonics, which perhaps you have begun to mentally analyze in a superior fashion, providing greater insight. As a suggestion, try setting up your detectors at the outset, then cover the displays with cardboard (or paper) and go detecting. You will now be able to see your results when dug up by sound only, and it may provide some excellent results. Just a thought. Cheers

Thanks for the informative video. I am a current owner of a Garrett AT Max. I just started researching and detecting seriously last year and decided to upgrade to a multi-frequency detector since I felt like I was missing good targets due to lack of separation technology. I would prefer to stay with American made but we are not there compared to Minelab or Deus. If I had a Minelab 800, I would hold tight on the Manticore purchase since I feel the 800 can compete with both the 900 and Manticore at this time. Since I have neither and mostly a land hunter, I am going with the Manticore for simplicity and the opportunity for programming upgrades in the future that can combat the nail falsing in the future. I plan to keep the Manticore for many years and the AT Max as a backup since I am not the type who runs out and grabs the latest and greatest.

Get a nice used 800 ...... BUT, make sure you hunt all the spot you have wore out with your Max. You will find things at those spots, especially deep silver. You should be able to pick up a used Nox for less that you paid for your Max.
@jeanponce20172 жыл бұрын
American technology put multi frequencies in DFX detector in the late 90s and in the early 2000's the V3i ran 3 with a display screen that rivals detectors today. They were ahead of their time and people didn't want to spend time to learn them. Meanwhile their patents expired and Mi elab took them and ran with it. The difference today is the speed of micro processors which is the only reason they get better depth but for over 50 years detectors never changed the basic principle of transmitting a magnetic field through a coil inducing a response in the target metal and picked up by the receiver coil. Pulse induction is about the only other difference in how these detectors work. With all of these new detectors coming out in the last 5 years when you look back at it they aren't really pushing the needle very much other then bells and whistles on a digital screen. And now they use colors to drive market share. Minelab put out the Nox 600, 700, 800, 900 Manticore and even that is going back to somewhat the same platform they started with in the CTX 3030. They flood the market with detectors for maximum profit. They are notorious for releasing machines that should never be released until all problems get worked out. I think it's horrible the customer has to inform them that they release detectors that aren't ready to be released and they've done this back to the late 90's with the Excalibre that leaked. The batteries would die in weeks and it took months sometimes up to 6 months to send it in to be repaired and have it returned. They do this with your money in their pocket and 40 years later the Manticore is gonna do the same thing. By 40 years they still can't get rid of an iron nail where my old DFX clearly shows bars on a screen saying there's iron wrapping around and causing the falsing of a signal and it would give reading on the display warning that literally says "target overload" when a signal over big iron like a horseshoe that wraps around the VDI scale. Yet today Minelab detectors are still digging horseshoes??? Why am I the only person that questions this lol IDK sheeze . If they use old out dated tech at least use that tech in their discrimination also instead of selling a new machine a year later claiming to be the best and it's not. It's possibly gone backwards??? They are concentrated more on profits then developing a great product for it's price which is exactly what Makro has done. In fact they are about to break out soon mark my word they are starting to develope the tech to image the ground in real time. This is a leap forward everything else is bells and whistles if you look how far they push the bar It's literally micro but their price point increase is macro (pun intended)

I think the best point you made in this video is something I’ve already pondered when considering buying a manticore. “How much deeper do you really want to dig?” I own a nox 600 and I bought the Legend when so many people started having issues with the nox leaking. So now I keep the nox for a backup detector. 99% of my hunting is done in the water and those 2 detectors find targets pretty much as deep as I’m able to recover a target in the water and sometimes deeper than I can dig. I just can’t come up with a good reason to throw $1500 at another detector. I agree with you the Legend is a tremendous detector for the price. It’s basically an equinox that doesn’t leak. Maybe the manticore might be more stable in salt water than the legend? I can crank the sensitivity pretty high with the legend tho. I’d love to buy a manticore. I just need someone to give me a good reason to own it over the legend and I haven’t heard one yet.

I believe it will help in separation, depth, emi, target identification on the manticore and 900 because of stronger signal it sends into the ground in multi and sometimes in single frequencies it depend on your area.you might get better readings on the graph also between ferrous and none ferrous.

Rei has really skinny rope/string with mega lb ratings to replace lanyard on D2! Highly recommended, my first time out I climbed 500ish ft elevation to realize my remote was gone and the panic ensued! Later that day found 1895 "o" barber so it worked out. This rope or any equivalent along with a piece tied to stem with a clip between them gives me peace of mind and I no longer worry!

Thanks for posting this Merrill. This helps a lot. I'm #15 on the waiting list with my dealer for the Manticore. Been strongly looking at the deus2, wondering if i made the right choice. After your video I can see that it's going to be okay either way. Thanks. Down the road I'll pick up a deus2 for the beach. Learning The tones on the deus2 would be Great to learn and use. Which is best??? They are both excellent choices, both high end detectors!!! The best thing one could do for themself , is buy one and actually really learn the detector!!! Having many detectors doesn’t guarantee more treasures! I have been doing MDing for 46 years and have never needed a backup detector… ever !! I will say I am getting excellent results with my D2 Ws6 !! It has plenty of features that I have learned to use. The right size coil for my needs. Build quality is perfect for me. I like your comparison videos, when you match signals with detectors. That I believe is the true test of a detector. It’s not burying a coin and checking to see how deep it can pick it up. But going over a signal and seeing what detector can pick it up then dig it. That’s the great test.

Hi Merrill, thanks for all those great little tips on the pros and cons of both those two. But the reason as you mentioned that you felt more are ease with the Minelab is common for all us older people ( which is probably the vast majority of people in this sport/hobby/obsession). It is the screen is larger, the fonts are bolder and easier to see, the Deus screen is faint and not easy to see the tiny icons in the bright sunshine. Thanks for warning me about the Desus coil it is a pain to charge and the wire breaks? I guess after this video of yours Desus 3 will becoming out soon. The idea that you are gonna completely clear all the targets from one area or that you never gonna miss a target I think is not possible, let's start with that. No matter which metal detector you choose you always gonna miss some targets, the way I see it is how much time are you going to take to get to know your metal detector and base on my experience of more than 13 years with my minelab xplorer II (yes is an old metal detector but still working till today) I will definitely go with a minelab metal detector cause I know, with the proper care that is gonna last me for a really long time. Thanks for the video and can't way to see when you take the manticore to the beach. Greetings from California.

I made the mistake of getting the Deus 2 on release date. Will leave it a year before thinking of getting the manticore. Very disappointed that XP didn’t bring out an update for it in December like they said they would. Is a good job I’ve still got my Deus 1 with HF coil. Thanks for the video mate.

@@MetalDetectingNYC yes I never do beaches I hear the Deus 2 is great on them. It’s also found me lots of silver hammered coins and a gold coin on quiet pasture. Well done video but it does not help decide what to buy, though practically speaking the Legend probably solve getting in the water problem of the Nox 800. I like the simplicity of the Manicore, but it is not fully tested and a smaller coil would be essential amongst suburban trash. The Deus II has a steeper learning curve and some design weaknesses. People are already getting alternate shafts for instance. I guess time will tell.

I guess I'm old school, I still use the E trac but it's getting long in the tooth. Been contemplating a new detector so I've been watching for something to pop out at me on the Manticore by watching these trials. So far I can only assume it's a great detector but I have not seen anything yet that screams that it's better than the Equinox yet. I might be more inclined to look at the 700 or 900 coming out if they fixed the leaking problem. Thanks for the video

From what I've seen demonstrated (not your channel, Merrill), I have some reservations about both of these detectors. The reason I won't ever buy a Deus2 (or any Deus model) is that every component has to be charged...i.e. the detector, the coil AND the headphones. Forget to charge one and your hunt may be ruined. It takes hours to charge these in the field. Call me old fashioned, but I like the flexibility of changing out batteries on site, or swapping a charged battery pack for quick hunt continuation. Rechargeable batteries have shorter run times too. Though the Deus2 is supposedly wireless, you have to run a fragile looking supplemental antenna wire if the coil is submerged. Likewise, if the control box is submerged, audio to the wireless headphones stops. There may be a hardwired headphone option for the Deus, but I haven't seen it talked about. Necessary for shallow water diving! You also pointed out the complexity of the Deus. I feel I would be paying for many options and features I would never end up using. I MIGHT consider the Manticore, but i don't like the relatively short run time (7-9 hours), and don't like being forced to use proprietary headphones, which may or may not sound good to my ears. Until there is more testing, I continue to be gun shy about leakage and build quality. Minelab knew about coil ears breaking, arm rests breaking and control box leaking on the Equinox 600 and 800 models early on. It's as if they thought "Well, we're selling all we make the way they are...why change anything?". They could have re-done the coil ears adding just 1/16" of plastic to each coil lug and solved the problem. Leakage wasn't (potentially) fixed until the 700, 900 and Manticore (hopefully). So yes. These are very good detectors. I've used Minelab detectors and have been a fan for decades with no problems, though I don't water hunt. I will wait until the Manticore has been in the field for a while before I invest $1600 to see if it holds up! I do wish they'd reinforce their coil ears though. Having to buy some aftermarket gadget that does what Minelab should have done to begin with ruffles my feathers a bit.

CTX 3030 has entered the chat... I have a CZ21, Legend, TDI, Minelab F1A4, and CTX at the moment. Had basically every other detector (V3i, Deus 2, Equinox, Sovereign GT, beach hunter, Infinium LS, etc.) but sold them. I grab the CTX every time I hunt unless I'm hunting super heavy trash, in which case I grab the TDI (TDI can cherry pick low conductors better than any VLF), or water hunting where I grab the Legend because the CTX always sports the 17" coil. Everyone runs the CTX in Auto+3 and doesn't realize how crazy sensitive it is when you switch to manual sensitivity... literally like 6 inches deeper. Even Minelab still calls the CTX their Flagship machine, with Manticore between Equinox and CTX.
