Metal Detecting WWII Battlegrounds

Metal Detecting WWII Battlegrounds

3 жыл бұрын

We visit the Market Garden area and find evidence of the British airborne soldiers that once landed there by parachute. Again we manage to make some pretty amazing WW2 discoveries with our metal detectors.

I couldn't help but think about my great uncle who jumped in Operation Market Garden....an Irishman frkm Northern Ireland, he lied about his age and enlisted into the British Army when he was 16 years old. To make extra money, he volunteered for an unknown duty....the Parachute Regiment. Unfortunately, he didn't come home with any of his gear because he was very badly injured (I believe during Market Garden) and was evacuated....he volunteered to go on a patrol after one of the other guys refused and lost half of one leg, the kneecap of the other and a few fingers. He didn't talk much about the war unless he had a few beers and a bit of whiskey in him, but then he would tell me a few stories....may he RIP!

Hey guys, VSF 90 means, it was produced by Vereinigte Silberwaren Fabriken Düsseldorf and is unfortunately only silver plated, not massive silver. But still a nice find....and Gustav Barthel was a company producing in Dresden these blowtorches since 1875 until 1945 and also some time after that during the GDR period. The one you found might be from the 30ies and such eventually from German troops.

I would also like to remember The 1st, Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, who Trained in East Fife, Scotland and were involved in the same operation, commanded by Major General Stanislaw Sosabowski, as depicted in the film, A Bridge Too Far. We have a memorial garden to them in Leven, Fife, Scotland. Please check out their history, they were badly treated and some may say betrayed. We will remember them. 🙏 On my wee channel, I have a World War Two history playlist, with links to the 1ST Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, for anyone interested. 😉

Then I pay for packaging material and I pay 50% tax over any profit at the end of the year. Revenue that remains, as is also clearly indicated at my webshop, is considered support for the channel and will be invested in trips, equipment and subscriptions.
