The thing about Will's lyrics is they're full of references and quotes and stuff that will lead you down rabbitholes...

The record this is from (The Normal Album) has a big thematic focus on societal pressures to confirm and be normal, with this song opening the album and discussing suburban culture and how it feels like vampires sucking all individuality from the people within it.

Listen to BlackBoxWarrior or Marsha off the same album if you want more of this

@@Aggietea either way, he has to pick a lyric video. It always sucks seeing them watch and have no idea what's happening, especially with ones like Okultra and I/Me/Myself that are so lyrically and meaning packed

@@remi3936 yeah. I just don't like when people who aren't familiar with Will listen to i/me/myself and then the takeaway is that he's trans. I understand why they think that but personally it just annoys me

the vocals on vampire culture (the middle section of suburbia overture) in the album version are the most insane and metal thing i have ever heard. id love to hear your thoughts on those vocals, i feel like nobody but will wood could ever make sounds like that.

lol. may not have been at my most alert when i wrote that. it wouldn't have been such a novel otherwise (tho this comment is gonna be a second one, if you feel like reading it). or gone on a whole rant about Five Names before settling on another song. my bad. wrt the flamboyance, i consider this one of the more tame live performances, and that's why i linked it 😂. his performances of Front Street are about 4x more intense his stuff is absolutely an acquired taste. i don't even like musicals but i got attached after hearing a couple songs from Self-Ish (Capgras!) and the eccentricity slides right off me at this point. i also love spending ridiculous amounts of time poring over lyrics, so there's that. Blackboxwarrior's lyrics are even more obscure, by a lot. this song's one of the many critical, vaguely over the top rants he's done. Love, Me Normally is in the same vein and from the same album. "he comes radiation" is a reference to the nuclear family, "participation trophy wife" and "live laugh love, please pass the pills" are pretty self explanatory. the vampire stuff has symbolic meaning but was probably mostly for fun. a lot of his music's goofy and excessive and theatrical and not all necessarily good or palatable but extremely entertaining and really fun to listen to. so, naturally, i recommend it to everyone who will listen, and sometimes they don't even decide i'm crazy. nice video!

you should listen to Front Street and Blackboxwarrior too! His newest album is a lot different, but it's really good, specially in the lyrics (as usual) From the last album my faves are Tomcat disposables and Willard!

Suburbia overture is so much better edited, the better live from atudio song would have been blackboxwarrior
