Hey! New York, U.S. watcher here. I've been a fan of this band a long while but I always have a hard time explaining Exactly what they are to someone not familiar. I sat here grinning and nodding as you "got it" about certain parts. Most of their albums are Themed. This one has an "80's coming of age movies" theme (bands wording, not my own. They drew inspiration for the sound from lots of popular late 70s through 80s music, Queen, Toto, Van Halen, etc, but mashed with their own sound. The lyrical content mostly being about a really rough patch the lead singer (who writes most their lyrics) was going through at the time with breakup of his engagement and his mother's illness, etc. "Astoria" is the name of the town from the 80s movie "The Goonies" and they filmed this video in Astoria Oregon (the beautiful visuals) and is just a name of a place they used to describe going through a "place" in life and growing up. I could go on and on of curse because I love these guys. Really awesome concepts and storytelling. Best part is they pull it off live Impeccably. I can stand bands that can't play live what they create. If you like "harder" stuff (you mentioned liking some punk) check out their first album "Fix Me" much harder, still lots of queen nods there too. ☮️🎸

Aye Suffolk County here! Loved them for years and are so underrated. They've got a little something for everyone but they're under the radar for the most part. Shame really. More people know Call Me Maybe than they do Marianas Trench

Agreed. My favorite band.. always say.. pop-rock?? The craziest part.. when you first get into them, if you weren't there from the beginning, is.. you will SWEAR many of their songs HAD TO HAVE BEEN on the radio here in the U.S. .. they are so catchy.

Astoria is the name of this album. It is a concept album and Astoria pays homage to the Goonies and the entire album is made you feel like a coming to age film like the Goonies! Hope that kinda helps out! also, don’t know if you’d react to more of them, but if you do check out Masterpiece Theatre 3

This song features clever references to a bunch of 80s artists. The most obvious are Dire Straits, Queen, Eurythmics, The Police, Huey Lewis & the News and for those sunglasses at night, Corey Hart. And great observation about Josh's pitch and vocal range - he's one of the best and most creative rock singers out there.

I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction video. You nailed it all! I appreciate you recommending the song even if it’s not your preferred genre. Hopefully the band can see this review. All the guys sing. Song is about going through life struggles. Video is meant to be like The Odyssey. It was filmed in Canada & in Astoria, Oregon where Goonies (film) is set. Goonies/80s sets tone of album (also named Astoria). Making of album: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioHGp2B7oqmBZ7M

They were pop punk for their first album, but they lean more into pop rock now and they are great at it imo! They were pretty great as a pop punk band too, Alive Again from they're first album is one of my favourites from them

The queen reference is for sure purposeful. The musical composition of their songs is unparalleled in this current era. Josh the lead singer is a musical genius but his vocals arent always perfect

You're right it was intended to be based in the 80s and Astoria is the place the Goonies and during the album they only used instruments from the 80s or earlier it is a really cool concept and they tend to do all their albums sticking too one theme like ever after (from 2012) is a fairy tail and phantoms is like a ghost story type thing. this is a really great review. they were originally a pop/punk band now they are more pop/rock

Bro. ASTORIA is an album entirely set up on an 80's theme. So that is where the influence is from.. you were pretty damn close. Good call. The album cover is a tie-in to the Goonies movie (80's movie, as well)

Yeah, you nailed the Queen/80s rock music influence for this album. All of their albums seem to have their own concepts, which draw on different inspirations, genres, and decades. Really awesome band.

You should review one of the songs on their new album. It's called The Killing Kind. My boyfriend is a metal head and he actually really likes their new album

This band uses Queen inspired themes a lot. Astoria is very 80s themed. Josh Ramasy is the lead singer and he was broken up with his fiancee and he wrote this album.

The harmonies are actually all the band members singing together! Just one of the many things I love about them is that they’re all phenomenal singers. And yes! This album is heavily influenced by 80's artists like Queen and Michael Jackson 😁

I'd love if you reacted to more of their music- their albums, Masterpiece Theater, Astoria, and Ever After are concept albums (best listened to in one sitting as each song blends into the next) like The black parade and such- they really are artists! I'm from MA btw lol

The album this song is off of has an 80's influence/vibe to it. That might be why you think of 90's or earlier.

You could maybe say they're an alt rock band but they typically get classified as Punk pop. Definitely not a straight up rock band.

In one of your earlier videos someone asked you to react to You can't be Neautral on a Moving Train by the rapper Vinnie Paz. If you do you should also react to his song Writings on Disobedience and Democracy, which is the part 2, but before you react to those you should react to the song Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story by Jedi Mind Tricks featuring RA The Rugged Man, the reason is because in the song Writings on Disobedience and Democracy, there is a verse which directly references Uncommon Valor.
