Lay wrote Promise Chinese version and then Chen and Chanyeol worked together on the Korean version. The song is about 2014, the worst year for EXO since their debut. It's about how they felt about disappointing fans with all the 3 chinese members filling lawsuits against SM at that time, plus the dating scandals following those news. So yeah, that's why they sing about being sorry and wanting us to trust in them even through they couldn't stand by their promise to being "One" until the end. For those fans that were since their beginning and experienced that and still stood with them, it's such an emotional song and even new fans can tell, they're pouring their feelings out for us to know. This song is specially dedicated to the fans. One of the member, lay (the blonde hair) composed the song while chen (the one who did thr highnote) and chanyeol (the rapper) wrote the lyrics. In 2014, the group was falling apart bcs of two chinese members leaving and it doesnt stop there, one more chinese member left in 2015 leaving only one chinese member stands (lay) and broke their promise to be 12 forever. They did this to promise fans they will not breaking their promise again. Initially, the song title was EXO2014 but then they changed it to promise. If u want to listen more to the emotional rap by chanyeol, i recommend you to watch chanyeol's stage at elyxion, named as Hands, his self composed song. He talked about about his journey as an exo and how his members hive strength to him and somehow blames himself for not stopping the ex members from leaving. Give it a listen u'll love it. Chanyeol really is an impressive rapper and rarwly being showcase bcs of exo's sing thats focusing more in their vocals. It would be wonderful if you can react to the lyrics of Hands (referring to other 8 pairs of hand of his members) first before reacting to his stage. Love you channel!!😊

Jsjsjs did you at 7:53 call Promise a twilight lmaoo They wrote this song as an apology that they couldnt keep their promise of EXO's logo 'We are One' cuz in 2014-2015, 3 members left and 2 dating scandal happened( I still don't know why they call dating a scandal and it's so frowned upon) and a ton of fans left them so through this song they promise to stick together and uphold their saying of We are One and they promised to 'protect' fans from all that drama.

The song PROMISE was about 2014-2015. EXO saying sorry was because they felt that they hurt us (there where 3 members who left that year - THE COMPANY'S FAULT. NOT EXOs current or ex members & maybe coz of the dating - I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY DATING IS A NO NO TO FANS. IDOLS ARE HUMANS) and they just wanted to say sorry and that they won't hurt us like that again - though we know that they probably hurt more from the 3 members leaving than us. EXO is so precious. Ps: they used to be 12 but after 2014 & 2015 they are now the current EXO, 9.

Rapper-Chanyeol and High note guy-Chen are written the Korean version of this song while Lay wrote Chinese version. This song dedicated to apologized and makes their promises after the three Chinese members left.

"Promise (2014)" is an emotional song for all of us. It's about when EXO lost members and stuff :( You can find the studio version in LOVE ME RIGHT - EXODUS Repackaged album that was released in 2015. The Korean version and the mandarin version have different lyrics/stories, but both are so meaningful for EXO and EXO-L♥ Anyway, thank you so much for the reaction, can't wait for the next part!♥

They said "sorry" because that song was composed during the time when some of EXO's Chinese members departed from the group. So they said sorry to the fans because they thought they are letting us down. The song also conveys that they would do their best and work harder in order be better versions of themselves and that they are very grateful to have us by their sides through their dark era. That's why I really love EXO. They are just so soft and fluffy and humble. Precious babies.

Promise was composed when Chinese members left EXO and fans was afraid if EXO was going to be no more. But The remaining EXO apologising to their fans, promising to hang on, work harder, come back as one, stronger, and more united if just the fan would wait for them to do so. And they did! I'm late again :'( yea everyone's covered info on promise :') If you look closely, the lyrics for the Chinese version is directed to the members who left and the Korean version is more directed to fans (when I stand on stage with you vs to you) smth like that... Reason why our slogan is called "we are one" is because consecutive letters for both subunits and fandom, EXO K+L+M= one, representing our forever relationship and significance towards each other
