Alexa,I assume you're too young to really appreciate its contribution to the RPG genre. No one who was old enough to play that game when it came out would ever look down on it. It was simply incredible.I'm saying this as a person who hates fads,but I was always a huge fan of Squaresoft. They made some incredible 16 bit games,but they went all out with this one. You want to know what was overrated? FF 8 and FF 9. Heck FF 10 on the PS2 was mediocre too. Oh,and the Legend of Mana was horrible,btw.

PS1 is definitely my favorite console of all time, as far as games are concerned. So many amazing JRPGs and platformers. My favorite game on the system has to be Final Fantasy Tactics. The variety and depth in that game is insane. Love it so much =)

it depends on your choice. chrono cross was well done and it had several ending. legend of dragoon had much better design and the game had voice acting (screaming hahaha) + the gameplay was more fluid but we talk about ps1 so nobody cares. 1 of the game is an epic tale with dragoons and magic the other is an epic tale with time traveling either way you will play with an epic game.

MGS is #1 for me. There is absolutely no flaws in this game. Love the 3D, the acting, the gadgets and weapons, boss fights, the duration, replay value, all the hidden stuff, Richard Crenna..err, i mean Roy Campbell. EVERYTHING IS PERFECT !

You gotta take the positive with the constructive, and in this case, I'm not a fan of Brittany's approach to the show. I'm sure she is a very nice person, but you do limit your audience when you go this route.

I agree. MetalJesus built his fanbase with a charming, well spoken persona that did very thoughtful analysis and lists. This is a little too different for me. If the trend continues, I'll just unsubscribe. I'm only a drop in the bucket anyway, and MetalJesus is old and established enough that it won't much matter- but you're right about feedback: I think it is necessary to at least put it out there for him to see.

Her attempts to justify it weren't bad, however even if it was a really good version, it shouldn't really be on this list. I may not agree with some other choices because of tastes, but I don't have a problem with them recommending them, but Tetris is a different story. Nostalgia shouldn't play that big of a factor. I have a DOS game that I love, there is significant noted issues,but I love it and still wouldn't put it in a 10 list for others to play.

So happy Metal Jesus picked Xenogears. It's my favourite JRPG of all time hands down, brutally underrated. To those that complain about the second disc having too much dialogue I disagree, the story is so rich that it deserves and needs a lot of dialogue particularly towards the end. If you're a JRPG fan and haven't tried it do yourself a favour and give it a try!

StooRoxxAss I was thinking the same same thing. Nostalgia factor immediately turned me off to the new cutscenes especially since they are a big part of what makes the game so good. However, that nice graphic upgrade and the MGS2 control and gameplay style make me say fair enough. Even though MGS1 is pretty much my favorite in the series and on the PS1 I can see why a lot of people like Metal Gear Matrix, even though I would never play it. Still waiting for that perfect MGS1 remake!!!

StooRoxxAss ryuhei kitamura directed the action scenes, he was responsible for azumi( my favourite movie of all time).... and versus( Kung fu zombies flick). I love the GC remake a lot more than the ps1 original, and I am a Sony fanboy.

snake You cant deny that a big part of what made the original game a masterpiece probably above all the others was that snake always felt human, alone and underpowered. Even if his enemies had supernatural abilities it was all maintained. It was a pretty scary game when i was ten years old and I had to hide and crawl in order to not get brutally killed by the sheer amount of enemies outnumbering you. Snake himself was easy to connect with and I would feel the same emotions as if i was really him. Watching him flip around in the gamecube remake and characters like vamp in the future games as well made it cartoony and i never got truly immersed ever again. The original is by far the one that is the most immersive to this day. They hit all the right notes with that one. Graphics dont hold up today though sadly. It sucks people nowadays cant truly experience MGS1 the way we did in the 90s

Respect to you Metal Jesus for championing Fear Effect over Resident Evil. I've always felt the same way. I like the Resi franchise a lot, but there is nothing like those first two Fear Effect games. They were so eerie and nihilistic and... downright sick! Very creepy games with (for the time) outstanding visuals.

My first RE game was 4... so I was quite spoiled. Then I got RE 2 for the ps1 and played it. the cinematics were phenominal... and then I played it and all of its shitty horrible tank controls and was like... this is shit. moving on. Now the remakes on the Wii that turned this whole set into Rail Shooters... I LOVE THOSE and will do them all day every day!

I cannot believe you included Einhander! No one knows about this game but I loved playing this on the PS1 for so many hours. Tried to find it a couple years ago but they are so collectible now and SO EXPENSIVE. But they have it on Japan PS Store so I setup a Japanese account, purchased some Yen, paid less than 10 bucks and downloaded it into my PS3. With hdmi upscaling this still looks and sounds incredible! Thanks for the throwback

I never understood why Crash 3 is more liked than 2, it felt a bit more cliche to me... Also, Breath of Fire 3 vs 4...I havent' beaten 4 yet but 3 ...holy crap did that game get tedious near the end. I didn't like how the game gave you the option to use all these cool characters ...only to find out you basically need to play with Rei and Momo otherwise you'll find yourself having to leave the dungeon because you needed to blow up a wall or pick a lock....4 you can switch at any time so if you DO need to do something it just worked better. Also, if you get the physical copy of Breath of Fire 4 it has issues working on some PS2's and PS3's. It worked fine on my PS and PS3 but my cousins PS3 was a newer model and flat out didn't work. Xenogears, I don't get, I do not get the praise that game gets, yes it starts out AMAZING, and it has a lot going for it, they did a whole lot of neat things but that all goes away and the end is 100% rushed. Yes they ran out of budget but games today get crucified for less, Mass Effect 3's last 15 minutes of a 25+hour game being not what people wanted, but half a game literally unfinished with paragraphs of text instead of content? Instant classic! The game just went too far and didn't have the budget for it in the end, they were better off ending it on a cliffhanger to the next game with a good end boss, instead they dragged it out to the detriment of the game, trying to quickly wrap things up in paragraphs of text. :| Great HALF of a game. Edit: I'm not saying these games are bad, I just don't understand why people rate them as I stated above. ...So please don't chew me apart for my thoughts/opinion :|

About the ps3 issue. Earlier models of Ps3 actually had Ps1 and Ps2 backward compatibility. The newer models don't have backward compatibility.

Jappe132 Yeah I'm aware, his has full compatibility I believe, it at least did PS1 because the game worked till a random battle happened, then the game wouldn't load. I recall back in the day this game was notorious for compatibility issues with PS2 so it's not surprising it's got some with PS3

I disagree yet agree with you on Xenogears. The games first disc was a riot I loved it and actually felt empathy for the characters and the sadness resonating from the story's lows and the awesomeness of the games highs. This games first disc had it all and then-some. Your probably right in saying that they should have ended it and came back later for the second half but had they done that the second half of the game would have been made by the same company who produced Xenosaga which side by side the games are similar but VERY different. I think there was some kind of falling out between Square and Namcos head developers towards the end of Xenogears that led to the story rights landing in namcos corner and later 3 more installments that may or may not be continuation of the original story. I wish the books that game was based on were printed in English but sadly they are all Japanese print only. Anyway, the only spot I disagree with you on is the fact that (knowing what i know about the developers disagreement) ending the game "might" have been better than rushing the second disc and reading pages of text... I'm just glad to have been able to complete THAT story in any form lol. The story and music gave me goosebumps AND I played Final Fantasy 7 and Tactics before this game when they came out. In my opinion Xenogears and Final Fantasy 7 tie for the best RPG's on the system. Are they the only ones that are good? NO NO NO I believe that PSX was THE best system for RPGs right beside the SuperFamCom/SNES
