PS2 emulation has improved an unbelievable amount over just the last few years. Games that used to have visual glitches and unplayable amounts of slowdown run perfectly today. For many of us buying a PS2 along with the games isn't an option but emulation is a damn near perfect alternative, it's gotten as close to the real deal as 5th gen emulation.

I think covering emulation and soft modding as an option was amazing. PS2 is a great system to collect for but some of the best games are unattainable for the average person. Sidenote: if you soft mod the console you can also use a software upscaler called GSM if you use a component cable. It’s not perfect and doesn’t work on every game but, when it does it looks great.

Always great to see you uploading updated guides! I have a couple of stuff to add: the BlueRetro/8BitDo Wireless Adapters are great accessories too. As for the HDMI options, it's important to remember some of them may not support low resolutions and are straight out incompatible with the PS1 retrocompatibility and a lot of homebrews (as the menu of many of them is super low res). I believe most upscalers can handle this fine, but the cheap adapters such as the PS2 to HDMI meet this limitation.

Great video boys! It's sad that my largest and simultaneously most neglected collection is the PS2. I absolutely loved this entire generation, but of the big three at the time, I feel like the ps2 aged the worst. Possibly because I used it to mostly play ps1 games, being broke as dirt there was a plethora of loose disks at my local pawn shop, but also renting dvds from blockbuster & hollywood video. Others thought it was cutting-edge, but for me it was utilitarian. I traded my dreamcast to a buddy with my entire collection for his ps2, only to keep playing ps1 games and watching dvds while I was working the night shift in the pre-wifi days. When the video rental stores and funcoland were liquidating, I went (game)crazy and loaded up several disc binders. But by this time, my downtime was limited with my job, education, and starting a family. The 360 took over whatever free time I had once it dropped & damn, Gears of War and Halo 3 were awesome late into the AM with a mic. I went back a few years afterwards and completed Black, FF12, MGS3, and GTA:VC. Great experiences. Now I need to Chisel the back-catalogue down before the hardware kicks the bucket. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have been searching long and hard for the remaining 19 and I can never find them anywhere. Apparently demo 100 does exist but I am still yet to even see a cover of it. The demos are cool, collectible and hardly get mentioned in the collecting world. The reason I like them is because every now and then demos produced some oretty cool stuff, like add-ons for games, and sometimes even games that never even ended up having a release in the West. Did you guys in the US have the OPSM demos and such?

The PS2 to this day is my favorite console. I still play it multiple times per week AND use it for my old dvd collection as well. It isn't too difficult to go to a retro game store randomly (or even 2nd and Charles or other stores that carry trade in game options) and find something cool for under $20 to pick up. The amount of games for this system (and the ps1 which you can play on it as well) is absurd and every year I find something new and fun to play. I have kids now and they love to watch some of the games that got me excited years ago. Nice video guys, I'm going to pick up that 4k converter even though it's expensive!

But, I wish you guys would point out how frustrating the games get a few hours in. What’s funny is you could pretty easily get an actual CRT for way less than those cables. Get a 13’ and it doesn’t take up room.

Got a nice little backlog of games for PS2 on my Ayn Odin 2 Pro but I am going to add some of these that I didn't know about.

The PS2 was awesome, and I've been going back and revisiting the library recently. There's so much great stuff to discover. Thanks for the video!

Still have my original fat PS2, but use a slim for day to day use. Probably my favourite console of all time. I do need to get a hard disk and a hdmi adaptor for the original.

Bro got hit with a nostalgia bomb seeing this. Back when I was like 21, I would always listen to these in my headphones at work, so it was almost like a podcast for me 😂 thanks for the hours of entertainment and information MetalJesus, Reggie, and the rest of the crew 🤘🏽

The ps2 to buy is the scph-50001 model because its the quietest model that has a ir sensor for the remote and since it's the fat model you can up to a 2TB hdd in it.

Most of the people at Clover Studios went on to form Platinum Games if I'm not mistaken, since you can really feel that level of over the topness there

Grande Metal Jesus locooooo.
