As much as I find that covers/remixes/different takes on Sonic CD tracks, even official ones, do not easily impress me, and personally I don't really feel that the Mania mixes appeal to me in the same way the originals do, that repitch of act 2 though... Act 2 was already pretty good. But this repitch, it's some fine stuff. Act 1 is just alright. I could live without it lol. As much as Tee Lopes claims the Mania style is an evolution of CD's style, it really isn't. To his credit he was smart enough to do something super different for Stardust Speedway. But it's clear from this zone that you can have more modern instrumentation and still sound a lot more like that sonic CD style. It's very clearly different from the other zones in music design. It's definitely the best in the game regardless... But underwhelming compared to the original. Act 2 is totally carrying here lmao.

I get where you're coming from. I don't really find Mania's soundtrack as great as I first thought either. It may be partly to blame with the stage choices, Oil Ocean for instance, doesn't lend itself well in style to CD. But I don't find Studiopolis 2 very enticing to listen to and their are just a lot of other choices of instrumentation that sound good, but not as good as CD in my opinion. The soundtrack lacks the same atmosphere and tone as CD, it doesn't represent that cavernous, WILDERNESS aspect that it had. So, while I think it's a soundtrack that's pretty good, I'd call it an INSPIRED soundtrack rather than an EVOLUTION as he puts it.
