Olga Hein commented this on youtube: "The german company FineTec GmbH has started to produce the brand Coliro in 2005, mica based metallic, pearl, glitter etc paints in white round pots. They were called FineTec Coliro and Finetce Pearlcolors. Several years ago, they noticed that suddenly a product that looked nearly identical (cakes, pans, names, package and even naming) flooded the world wide market, starting from the US. The only difference: The pots were black and square shaped, while the cakes were round. Finetec tried to sue and only partly succeeded. Because the american 'competitor' already registered the name 'Finetec' as a brand, and the german company FineTec didn't. So, the american company could keep the brand name, but was not allowed to advertise as 'made in Germany' etc anymore (which would be a complete lie). Also, the american company (honestly, there is basically NO information about that company, except their origin) is only allowed to sell in their black pots. Thus, the original company FineTec GmbH registered their brand Coliro and completely switched to advertise all the different lines with this brand, even removing the company name from the package, to make it less easy for the american company to smooch off of them. Unfortunately, very few actually realize/care for/bother to look it up. Well, in case someone cares: if your Finetec cakes are in black pots, you have a fake. The real ones are sold as Coliro in white round pots (except for one small travel set of 6, where the cakes are not in pots, but directly in the black case, in 2 rows of 3 cakes each), no matter if in sets or individually. If your 'Finetec' paints don't have the name 'Coliro' on their package and/or do not look like on their website 'finetec-mica.de' or the companies very own online shop 'coliro.de', than it's not the hand made mica paints from Germany. And they are produced in Germany only, german art supplies companies don't outsource their main production." and this is also what I've heard before.

That's all very interesting, gives me some dates I haven't read before. Thank you for passing along the information it will give me more keywords to research. I read something similar and watched a few of the videos already on KZbin but I wasn't able to find any supporting documents for the various arguments when I researched myself, but I was looking from 2015 until now. I only found other random comments and blog posts not backed up by any creditable sources. I spent about two hours trying to find a concrete answer and it was all very convoluted, even the answers on the own companies websites are fishy. Finetec (the one I'm using in the video) seems to insinuate that Finetec GmbH was their original source of manufacturing until they decided to produce their own products but it's worded so weird. Which is why I said what I said, that I really didn't know the right answer and could only guess/speculate that it was a production/distribution issue or they were possibly partnered at one point. Just a point I feel worth mentioning for anyone else who reads this thread: At the end of the day I felt it was more important to my content to review the paints themselves rather than where they came from, but felt if I didn't mention it at all it would still get brought up in the comments. I purchased my coliro set via Amazon but I purchased my Finetec set from an Art Supply store in the US. They are from the Finetec company with the globe logo registered in the US but it still says they're manufactured in Germany on their website and claims that they just switched distributers. They are black pans but are rectangle cakes and came with an insert about the company with the names in german not english. Either way the paints are pretty amazing and I love the final results and the product that I use in the video are the same ones directly linked via Amazon in the description box.

Thank you for this information. It’s important to me. I’ve been cheated & robbed before by others & would never do it to someone else. I despise liars & thieves.

this was an extremely useful video, thank you so much! would you happen to know if regular watercolour half pans can fit into the finetec metal palette here? i really like the palette but not sure if the non-flat bottom will pose an issue.
