J None has a really… affecting? Timbre to his voice- it’s something that he might have just developed with his expressiveness as an artist, or hell, genetic gift. Since he’s been performing so long, I’m guessing it’s a lot of the former. You’re right- it’s not a showboat part of a singer’s range, but with how crazy warm his voice is, it’s a terrific foil for the clarity Eli & Cesar (the two high tenors) use, and pretty epic on its own. Btw, he also plays violin briefly in their “Warriors” video, duetting with Layne (who played on this one.) J had the lead on Warriors as well and he sounds gorgeous. Cesar is the only unmarried member of the group at the moment 😆 Great reaction, it’s always fun to see what musicians are struck by in Acapella arrangements.

J None was with Voiceplay from 2018 to 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing with them. He has been back to do 4 pieces with them while on leave; he's 2 years into a 5 year hitch. If you want to see more of J's range, check out Voiceplay's cover of Tennessee Whiskey. It was done before Cesar (with all the hair) joined them and when they still had their original (since 1997) high tenor. To see their theatrical side, check out Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - then get ready for the one they will drop in a couple of weeks. Trust me.

Never apologize for fanboying over VoicePlay, my friend! And especially not for this one. It's incredible. J.None is a former full member of the group who worked with them before he formally joined, so you'll see him in pretty much any of their videos from around late 2017 to May of 2021 (when he started a tour with the Navy) and in several collaborations since, including Remember Me, Friends on the Other Side, Valhalla Calling and In The Air Tonight, as well as a number of minis/shorts. Some further covers I recommend with various other fantastic collaborators are Hoist the Colours and My Mother Told Me featuring Jose Rosario Jr.; Creep, Seven Nation Army and Golden Hour with Anthony Gargiula; Dream On and The Dragonborn Comes with Omar Cardona; We Don't Talk About Bruno with Ashley Diane; The Greatest Showman Medley, Moana Medley and The Phantom of the Opera with Rachel Potter; and Man in the Mirror and Butter with Deejay Young. But I could name easily twice that many just from my list of personal favorites. These guys have been around in some iteration for 25 years, and they don't know how to sing badly. (Well, actually, yes they do, when they want to...but I can't show you proof just yet. XD)

It's interesting, there are a few songs they do, where I am not a fan of the original, but love what VP does to them. "Creep" by Radiohead being a prime example of a song I don't like the original, but very much enjoyed VP rendition of it.

Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci has a channel of his own you might want to check out. He has a 5 octave range and sings all the lead and backups himself. Would love to know what you think of one of his singles. I really enjoyed your reaction to Nothing Else Matters. They try to honor the original while adding their own flavor. In this one they brought in VioLayne because they felt it was the best way to cover that iconic part. However, that is only the second time I have seen them use an instrument as a group. Geoff uses instruments in his creations.

This is only the 2nd time we've gotten to hear Layne (VioLyne) play, even though he has been playing since he was about 4. The other one is Warriors by Imagine Dragons (spoiler J None plays too) These guys are just pact with talent. This is Geoffs' arrangement. I think they said someone told them that they couldn't sing this song acapella. I think they did an outstanding job of proving whoever it was wrong. J. Loved every second of your reaction!! J. None used to be a full time member of the group and then joined the Navy and sings for them. He comes back as a "featured artist" like on Valhalla Calling (which I recommend next - another mind blowing opportunity). He also does In the Air Tonight. Eli is the Rock Tenor (pronounced like Jelly) with the killer rock voice. Cesar has the sweet tender voice and replaced J. None as the full time member. Cesar is featured prominently in Creep. Cesar is also the Steven Tyler high note on Dream On. Now for Layne...vocal percussion extraordinaire and now has the nickname VioLayne after Nothing Else Matters. Both Layne and J. None play violin on Warriors (Imagine Dragons)...and it's amazing. Geoff and Layne do most of the arrangements splitting the time about 50/50. But Eli arranged Creep (released a couple weeks ago) and also Eleanor Rigby a couple years ago. Enjoy the Rabbit Hole!

On J.None’s channel, there’s a video of him singing for the Navy, the National Anthem. His rendition is very simple and elegant-not all the ornamentation that so many singers add, just the song and his beautiful voice. Well worth a listen. J.None was a full member of VoicePlay for some years but left in 2021 to sing with the US navy music section. He has a beautiful voice and a crazy sense of humour, which can often be seen in older videos.

Just came back to watch your reaction again, it was so much fun the first time! Speaking of "action", Geoff is married with a son, Layne is married with 4 daughters, Eli is married and they are expecting a baby in November, J None is recently married. Only Cesar is single at this time. Individually and as a group they are wonderful people. They hold periodic auctions for their patrons. They auction costumes and set pieces with all proceeds going usually to music and hunger charities. Or maybe they just wanted to clean out the storage room. 😉😉😉

My Halloween recommendation is their amazing rendition of Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” featuring Elizabeth Garozzo. I’m the kid of a musical theatre director & grew up learning classical/orchestral music, so I loved what they did with it - however, everything I’ve heard from VoicePlay is absolute genius! Incredible. Metallica’s Black album was the first CD I ever bought & I love NEM - I get chills every time I hear this! Crazy talented. They have some fantastic shorts, too - check out the one of A-ha’s “Take On Me.” Great choice, Sebs! Check out more VoicePlay, you won’t be sad you did!

This was dropped on my birthday and it is stunning. J None was the baritone+ for VoicePlay prior to being recruited into the US Navy for his vocal talents. His last video as a member was Man In The Mirror (definitely worth checking out). He said he'd be back at his goodbye party and has been back a few times for both full productions and shorts/minis. He's done 2 yrs of the 5 and most of us are rooting for him back in VP. Friends on the Other Side, this one, In The Air Tonight, Valhalla Calling have all been done while he's in the Navy. They don’t get as much love as Pentatonix and Home Free but they are not only just as talented but they have a way of keeping the arrangements interesting the entire time. Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. These guys never get enough recognition that they deserve. Partly because they don't go on tour anymore like the others do. Voice Play are very happy to make videos for their fans or anyone else who dives into their rabbit hole. As they are getting older they don't have the time to do both. They choose to stay home base with their families & do what they do best like no one else can. They are a very theatrical acapella group & known as The Theater Kids of acapella. They invest a lot of time into their productions & do 99% of everything they do.

Thank you for another awesome reaction to Voice Play. These guys don't get near the recognition they deserve. They use to travel but choose to stay home base & record for their fans. They are after all known as The Theater Kids Of Acapella which takes a lot of their time. Other groups get more attention because they do travel & are more widely known. Voice Play work totally independent & free from any contracts. They do everything themselves with the exception of make-up & Ed Boyer does their final mixing who also does final mixing for many other popular Acapella groups as well .

VoicePlay is known as the theater kids of a cappella. They've gone through a lot of lineup changes so you may not recognize everyone in the older videos. In What's This, Oogie Boogie's Song, and This is Halloween, all songs from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, they dress up and play out the characters. They also do so in You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. Their Phantom of the Opera is fantastic. The Phantom is Tony Wakim, a former member who is in the video and live versions of Zombies vs Hillbillies Survivor that they did with Home Free, first on the Sing-Off tour after both groups were in season four of the a cappella competition show. their Halo theme video brings back one of the founding members, Scott Porter who is now an actor (Friday Night Lights). Please don't skip his message at the end of the video. In Boy Bands in 5 Minutes you's see not only the man Scott talks about but the spouses of 4 of the 5 members. Queen in 5 Minutes is also wonderful and has Earl's husband at the beginning and end of the story. The Chicken Song, The Fox, and Road Trip are tour stage productions that are hilarious. I think you'll get a kick out of each one. So many more great videos, but I'll stop here.

If you haven’t done it already listen to this group cover of The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army. Geoff can hit notes that are so low you don’t hear them you feel them! Those really heavy ‘Thumps’ and ‘Rumbles’ you hear during the song are Geoff showing you how low he can actually go! If you like Bass voices you need to check out an artist call TOMI P. His version of ‘Toss a Coin to Your Witcher’ is one I always keep going back to.
