Ironically it sounds happier in c sharp minor it sounds triumphant and victorious, versus the original song which is in e minor which sounds sorrowful and full of grief.

@@jprrob4016 and e minor. Your right it changes a few times from a minor to b minor to e minor. b minor and e minor have the same notes except b minor has a sharpened 2nd which is c sharp. Kirk hammet often plays penatonic minor scale so your removing 2 notes including the raised 2nd so the b minor penatonic and the e minor penatonic cover the same notes.

@@elkrumb9159 kirk hammet often plays penatonic licks which contain 5 notes instead of 7 there is one note diffrent between e aeolian and b aeolian and that is cut out of a pentatonic scale so kirk hammet is often playing e aeolian penatonic over b minor progressions.

They actually recorded that song in c#, not sure what they did after recording it but I saw where I think Jason said it was their best and heaviest song. Could have been Rob too. Can't remember but I do remember thinking wow I didn't know they detuned that much, especially that early

It’s the same as E standard, just down a step and a half. All the fingerings are the same. Try drop or open tunings if you really want to do something different.

Very very nice cover, very interesting to hear such a classic in a different tuning like this. My one complaint is how soft and faded the drums are. I guess it makes sense given youre trying to front what youve changed the most, the guitar riffs and solo. But the drum section on the Fade to Black solo is probably my favorite (and I would argue the best) Lars fills of any Metallica song. The driving double base through the whole back half just really accelerates the feel of the solos nicely. Would love to see a version of this with perhaps a more neutral mixing.
