This absolutely sounds like old school Metallica. So glad y'all reacted to this! They are most definitely THE Metal gods. Such a great song, but to me, nothing will ever be as good as the early stuff. I first saw Metallica perform live in 1988 with my friends as a teenager. I will be seeing them for the 11th time when they come to Dallas next year, but I will be taking my sons with me. Full circle. 🤘🖤

FYI 1st album Kill 'Em All is widely regarded as THE first thrash album, ever. They literally defined the genre. Metal + punk = thrash. 🤘

When I first heard this tune the other night I was kinda torn, as far as my initial impression. Now a couple days have gone by and I have found myself repeatedly going back to listen to it, over and over. The chorus where James screams the song title is everything in this track. That and the kick drums. But just the way James climbs the ladder vocally to belt out the chorus is such an amazing hook. This almost feels like a sorta power metal almost-but-not-quite Dokken-type vibe meets British new wave meets sped-up Load riffage meets a more polished version of Hit the Lights. It's gonna be a go-to live song (the lyrics kinda reflect that) and the song's energy and the boys' own energy are undeniable. I can't explain it, but all I know is my ear loves it. I'm very happy Metallica is back with new tunes and I'm also very happy they kept the album under wraps so now it's arriving soon - to MY mind - rather than them announcing it 2 years out and then us playing the waiting game. These old dogs can still hunt.

With Kill 'Em All being my all-time favorite album, I agree that this is old school. And you are very astute in that I agree that it's more along the lines of The Prince or Stone Cold Crazy or Killing Time from Garage recordings. I like this tune, the boys are really trying, and James sounds amazing. But I regard it as more very good and fun as opposed to stellar (you see, with your spacey t-shirts, I thought I'd use a space word!🤔😆).

There is a metric sh*t-ton of Motorhead in there - not a criticism, just an observation - the drums could have been 'Filthy' Phil Taylor at the height of his powers. Here's hoping the new material has the same legs. 10 out of 10.

Actually they wanted to call their first album Metal Up Your Ass, but the record company wouldn't allow it. They shopped for a different record company, but none would allow the name. As a reaction to this, Metallica said "Kill 'em all then" (referring to the record companies), and their first album title was born.

I got mine on the Lighten' tour in '85 Sacramento, Ca Memorial Auditorium. Got to meet the dudes too. Good old days.
