Plenty of the original Doom's music has pretty clear metal and rock inspirations, but E1M1 At Doom's Gate is reportedly not taken from anything. Bobby Prince said the song was written prior to listening to heavy metal. It was meant to be a fairly generic rock riff, hence why people are able to attribute it to many different tracks including this one.

It makes me sad to think that some people will only discover Metallica through Stranger Things but then again... it is nice too. Such amazing music being found again by a new generation. I grew up on this as tapes from my mom that she stole from a music store in the late 80s XD (also don't to that, I just find it funny since she taught me to not steal but admitts that). I even have an official Master of Puppets shirt from my mom when she went to he concert. This song and the band means so much to me.
