Thr end of Fade is funny. I think John did one bar too many so they had to do another round or Lars didnt slow down for it. Maybe it was Kirk. I'm thinking John though since they never seemed to mess that part up before.

Picture this. Anthrax come on stage. They feed the crowd with adrenaline. The crowd responds in kind. The band likes to see the crowd going wild. Anthrax go up another gear. Fantastic. Metallica hit the stage. They feed the crowd with adrenaline. The crowd responds in kind. Metallica are full of spunk and on fire. Just as here and at Hammy, they were unstoppable. I heard they were fantastic at Sheffield as well. Take note kids, a whole generation of bands will fade away with time as immortality does not exist. But we at the time were spoilt for choice. Motörhead, Sabbath, Voi Vod, Slayer, Maiden, and hundreds of other bands at their prime during late ‘70’s, throughout the ‘80’s and ‘90’s as well. The gigs they put on were unforgettable. When you saw Metallica, you always remember Cliff as his stage antics drew attention. Cliff was a one off. Memories are made of this. Just glad people bought Pro Sony Walkman recorders to record shows the world over. Now people, listen to these shows try to experience what we went through at these gigs without the sweat, soggy tee shirts, denims. ENJOY.

So glad i got to this gig all those years ago, only chance to see the great Cliff Burton in action. It was a late night as Metallica didn't hit the stage till after 10. Sadly james had a broken wrist from skateboard accident so just vocals from him but didnt detract from the show one bit. People kept putting brown ale bottles on the stage and Cliff kept kicking them off. They hardly paused between the songs just blitzed through. My one regret was my mates got their programmes signed by all the band and i didn't. Oh dear!

What an upload! Yes, I was at this gig too at 16 years old. I got backstage and met the band afterwards and got my Damage Inc tour program signed. Still got it and wouldn't sell it for the world. I've also got the bootleg tape of the gig but glad to have this on you tube so I don't wreck the tape.

Thanks for uploading this. I was at this gig and got an audio tape a few months afterwards which I lost years ago. I still have clear memories of the concert.Hetfield was enjoying the Newcastle Brown Ale and i remember him passing a bottle to the rest of the band at one point. Cliffs solo was excellent. Anthrax did a good 60 minute set , remember them covering the Pistols and Scott Ian getting showered in a pint from the audience!!. It was the first time I saw them and still got happy memories of the night. Cliff Burton RIP and the Mayfair RIP

70th comment! My origin story begins at this event. My mother snuck backstage to meet the band and even said Cliff gave her a kiss. She also met a roadie whose name she liked so much she gave it to me when I was born over a year later. I still have the bootleg tape of this night, too... orange cover and everything.

I've heard a lot of people say AJFA and TBA have the best vocals from Hetfield but I've always preferred the sound of him in 86' thru 87'. It's not as deep yet but there is an intensity to it that's unmatched.

Commented a year ago and I see I'm back again. James never sounded better imo. If I could freeze the way I want Hetfield to be, it would be the 1986 version without a doubt although he also sounded killer on the Garage Days Re-revisited, where he sounded like a mix between Puppets and Justice. The intensity though, it just can't be matched from 85,86,87. The very early years he was finding himself and you could tell they weren't quite as mature yet. Those first couple of years of constant touring really developed their playing and songwriting. Ride The Lightning(James favorite album) is where they captured it and kept that ultimate formula until The Black Album where they shifted gears and watered it down a bit to where the masses and radio stations could latch on to it. Even as a watered down band, they still conquered the world and they remain there till this day. TBA was the rocket that got the world to take notice but it was really their back catalogue which kept their fanbase and established them as the king of the genre. Even though they went every which way since the 90s, releasing different kinds of records and a few duds, it's what they did in the 80's that immortalized them and put them in the Smithsonian..
