Hi Inna, this is off the live album S&M. It was recorded over 2 days in April 1999 with Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony, conducted by Michael Kamen.

I always felt metal and classical were a lot alike. Metallica proved that point when they did this. I love hearing their songs with an orchestra added to it! This song was made just for this concert but you should check some of the other songs they did at this concert.

Some fun facts about this performance for you Inna: ~No Leaf Clover was written specifically for this concert and with the orchestra arrangement in mind. Micheal Kamen, the San Francisco Symphony conductor was legendary and worked with many big rock bands when strings, horns or anything was needed. ~The concert called S&M (Symphony & Metal) took place and filmed/recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999, across the bay at the 3500 seat Berkeley Community Theatre on the campus of the high school I graduated from, a stage I personally stood on and performed on several times years before, so this literally hits close to home. ~This was the first and only time this arrangement would be done until a follow-up of this concert 20 years later at the Chase Center in San Francisco, also with the SFS but without Micheal Kamen this time due to his passing in 2003. I feel the 1999 S&M show is much better because of the smaller venue and acoustics and close vibe of the theatre and smaller audience that l feel made it more special. Oh and this would be bassist Jason Newsted’s last album/film with the band. Glad you enjoyed this surprise performance Inna :)

Michael Kamen knocked the orchestration for this album way out of the park. He just freaking nailed it. Plus this collaboration was his original idea. So Yay Mr. Kamen!

Back in 2019, Metallica did two shows with the San Francisco Symphony, a project called "S&M"(Symphony & Metallica). In 2019, they did another two shows with the SF Symphony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of S&M and the grand opening of the Chase Center arena. For S&M2 they played a lot of the songs they did for the first S&M shows, plus some new arrangements of songs they've put out since 1999. This song and another one were written specifically for S&M, and while I don't think they play the other one much if at all, they've played No Leaf Clover at many of their concerts without the orchestra. Both the origninal S&M and the S&M2 shows are available on CD & digital, as well as movies of both concerts.

I'll give u the info... This was in 1999 from the Metallica live album (and concert video) 'S&M' which teamed the band w/ the San Francisco Symphony conducted by (late) classical composer/ arranger Michael Kamen (who had arranged the strings for the song 'Nothing else matters' and worked w/ Pink Floyd, Queensryche, etc.) ... Metallica performed 2 nights w/ playing a set of their songs enhanced by the classical music from the orchestra behind them... For those performances, Metallica also wrote 2 original songs that were performed for the occasion on those nights - 'No leaf clover'... and '- (minus) human'... which Michael Kamen also helped arranged for the concerts. The rest of their set consisted of their classic tracks like 'Enter Sandman' ... 'Nothing else matters' ... 'Master of Puppets'... as well as newer songs from the 'Load'/ 'Reload' albums - 'The memory remains' ... 'Bleeding me' ... 'Until it sleeps'... etc. A remarkable track was the performance of their 1984 instrumental track 'The call of Ktulu' w/ the symphony. Following Metallica's performance and symphony album, Deep Purple (who had originally recorded a 'Concerto' album in 1969) revisited that format in 2000 and recorded a live set w/ an orchestra... Scorpions also recorded a set 'Moment of glory' recorded w/ the Berlin Philhamoniker in 2000... Kiss released 'Alive IV' in 2003 recorded w/ a symphony orchestra in Australia. The previous year in 1998, Metallica toured for the 'Reload' album and decided to record a batch of new cover songs... That was released in '98 as the 2 CD 'Garage inc'... which included a disc of all their past cover songs by bands like Motorhead, Diamond Head, Budgie, The Misfits... and newly recorded covers of songs by Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Nick Cave, Blue Oyster Cult, etc. To promote the album, Metallica did an entire set of cover songs ... and had a Metallica tribute band open for them and play their original songs. In 2019, Metallica returned to play another set w/ the San Francisco Symphony... Michael Kamen had passed away, so they recorded and released the 'S&M 2' live set w/ 2 new conductors (bassist Robert Trujillo had replaced Jason Newsted at that point) and they included tracks that were not in the first 'S&M' set - 'All within my hands'... 'The day that never comes' ... 'Halo on fire'... etc. However, the 'S&M 2' album was not as successful as 'S&M' when released in 2020.
