Metallica’s Robert Trujillo Talks 72 Seasons, Detroit And More

Great to catch up with Robert Trujillo from Metallica, as the band invades Ford Field for two big shows this weekend. Friday night with Pantera and Mammoth WVH, and Sunday with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills.
Here's part one of my two part interview with him, as we started out talked about the Detroit Lions. Apparently, he's a fan! He also talked about quarterback, Jared Goff playing his high school football not far from Metallica HQ.
We talked about the latest album, 72 Seasons. He said it was great to get back into a room and play with the guys after the pandemic. "You forget about those things and take them for granted, it was pretty special."
He also spoke to his time in Detroit this week. "It's a great city with a lot of history, a lot of history of music." While he was walking around the city a couple days ago, he walked by the Fox Theater. He talked about playing that venue with Ozzy and his band Infectious Grooves. "It's a very special place with a lot of history."
I was lucky enough to visit the Motown Museum earlier in the day with Charlie Benante from Pantera/Anthrax, and he told me a story of someone throwing a bottle on stage at the band at a show in Europe. Robert was hit in the head as he waiting behind an amp. He recalled the story about what happened, and how it bonded his friendship with Anthrax to this day.

I was at that 91 fox theater show! Infectious grooves were heavy cali band with crazy cartoon artwork, front row ozzy was nuts, too bad Zack was out then, GUS somebody on guitar then!

Yeah, I was there, when that bottle episode happened. Crowd showed great unity by waving out that A**, who threw the bottle. Funny ensured; Mike Muir W/ bunch of roadies followed by Scott Ian& Frank Bello literally threw that guy over the backstage fence. Moments later ambulance started to leave... :D. Mr. Trujillo being a true soldier played helluva gig wearing a georgeous turban. Oh- those metal memories...
