“St. Anger” by Metallica from the album St. Anger ©2003
Lyrics:
Saint Anger 'round my neck
Saint Anger 'round my neck
He never gets respect
Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
Fuck it all and no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself, to let myself go free
Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself, Saint Anger 'round my neck
I feel my world shake like an earthquake
Hard to see clear, is it me, is it fear?
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
Saint Anger 'round my neck
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control
And I want my anger to be me
And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free
Set it free!

@ridian what exactly is bad about this song? I have genuinely no idea what people are talking about in the negative comments. This song is nowhere as good as master of puppets or the unforgiven 1&2, but it’s still great? EDIT: yeah live versions without that terrible snare are 100 times better :D

I remember my dad calling me from Prison saying that Metallica came and preformed an they had Rob from Suicidal on bass. This was a while before st anger dropped so I thought he was full of shit. You cant see him in the video but in the some kind of monster doc you can see him clear as day a few times chillin near Kirk. This absolutely blew my 11yr old mind lol. Dont have many stories about my pops so this was definitely a highlight. Kindof sad to say but it is what it is. RIP Dad.

The album that saved my life after my mum died between 13 - 15 years ago when I was listening to it every damn day. I didn't feel like be alive anymore. The music on this album represents all raw feeling and emotions. Lots of people don't simply understand what what this album brings to the surface. I'm not talking about the taste. It's just pure emotions. Everything here is perfect. It's like classic music one must understand it to like and listen to it. The same goes with this album. Pure wildness of emotions !

Hey, I know St Anger as an album gets mercilessly ripped to pieces but this song still stands up. 2003 was a strange time, and Metallica were just trying to fit in, while at the same time trying not to fall apart. I loved this song when it came out, still do, and it felt good to have something new from Metallica, even if it wasn't the best they can do.

They have a long and varied career. Imo the period between 1991 and 2003 --Black Album, Load/Reload, S&M, and St. Anger was their creative zenith. So much variety yet soul and innovation behind everything they do. Still the case with the more recent albums, but they've since fallen into a bit of a familiar rhythm.

I was 21 and in New Corcoran when this song came out, three years into my life sentence. My cell was one of only a few that could pick up MTV with a makeshift extended antenna. Came out very fuzzy, but I remember this video and tripped out how it was filmed in SQ and the stories within the video. Ended up doing close to 18 years and have been out five years now. Watching this video clearly now on KZbin as a free man, at almost 41 years age, it hits different. Feel the pain of every story within the video. While the door is still open, I hope as many lifers as possible get a second chance and get that parole date.

Some say this was Metallica's worst album ...But if they actually took the time to look at it from the musical aspect they would see and hear a new ingredient to their repertoire, the raw sound on this album is absolutely BRILLIANT!!! and the fact they did this clip in a prison is totally uplifting for those on the inside and proves Metallica are not judgemental at heart which is a bresh of fresh air for they have always been consistent with their messages. Thank you Metallica from the bottom our your Metallica Family's hearts!!! ❤❤❤

I tried to like it for months but if the songs y were good that thin ass productiion job sounds thin and watered down. It's worse than Justice. Justice also happens to be my favorite Metallica album The production is terrible and harsh, but it also one of the finest technical thrash albums ever recorded. The difference is that Justice had some great songs on it. St. Anger... not so much. If you use a pile of shit as an ingredient in your Kool-Ade it will water it down and might even mask the taste somewhat, but all it's ever going to be is watered down dog shit.

stalkin_cat Control your rage before it controls you. That's exactly what the song says, so listen to it and control the beast, bro!

4 or 5 years? Over 10 years, bro... But still awesome. And to keep the subject of the comment: I actually was one of the St. Anger haters until I saw Metallica in concert and they played St. Anger. Now I love it... As I love every Metallica album...

I keep coming back expecting that snare not to be as bad as I remember. It always is.

Everybody gripes about the drum / snare mix but to me it's fine and appropriate for the song and style they are trying to get across.
