It is funny how all the romantic glassy paint of the music history peels off just to show greed, bullshit and business. Classy. At 22 that guy had basically unlimited power. And there were these tuff bands who blabbered about how they took “no shit” from no one… while in reality they eat from the palm of execs. Just amazing. I ain’t judging, just funny how that bs was sold to us naive kids as a form of rebellion and independence 😂

@@MetalHead-xq9on sure. Nothing but respect for Cliff. However, the groove that earned the respect of Elektra records was created SOLELY by Dave...Fucking.... Mustaine. For, as the record states (Ron McGovneys Garage jam tapes minus Cliff) was all sewn up and cased BEFORE they hired Cliff.

It just sounds like he met the band, loved their music, was going to sign them if he was going to stay with Electra. But since he wasn't going to stay, Michael Alago stepped up met the band and the rest is history. Also I just saw your interview with Brian Wheat from Tesla from around 3 years ago. He said that it was Cliff Burnstein that changed their band name to Tesla. Zutaut is definitely not an honest person. But a lot of those guys aren't.

what was "on the same level as" supposed to mean in this case?? In 1983? ...Raven were bigger. ...commercially?: absolutely. Raven's debut album: Rock Until You Drop was a NWoBHM classic and was something MetallicA admired & listened to (That, particular, album was much less "commercial" than the later Raven and was louder, faster, harsher)! So: since you didn't explain what you meant and: NO! No-one is going to read your mind! ...so: based-on that, alone: it has to be accepted that: You're wrong. -You might argue: song-writing or arrangement capabilities. O.K. 👍👍 ...but: as far as musicianship? ...and success within the (then) underground metal community?? - especially in the early '80s!!!? ...they were at "the same level." Absolutely. That's not a question of taste or preference (and that is nearly always what people MEAN when they refer to an artist being "better" than another (...or "more" something 🤷🤷)-even when they SAY it ISN'T! ...obviously: No-one is going to compare, say 🤷 Stay Hard 🤷🤷 or The Pack Is Back to: Master Of Puppets, or something! That would, just, be, flat-out, ignorant! ...but there was a period when MORE people would have been familiar with the name (and the music of): "Raven" than with the name: "Metallica." ...even if only by a slight margin. Naturally, things changed drastically when 'tallica moved from Megaforce over to Elektra (and the larger label budget could be used to promote and familiarize people with Metallica's music!) and Kill 'em All and Ride The Lightning developed larger and larger followings ...erupting, finally, with the release of: Master... and a slot opening for Ozzy! ...No-one is arguing the development. ...but you don't specify a time or range ... [🤦🤦] ...so: your non-statements have-to-be called out.

But they all a sudden came out with ride the lightning completely classically influenced? Like the chug masters wrote classical music all a sudden? Yeah right. Metallica didn't write ride , master, and justice or black. But wrote everything else. Its pretty obvious. They are industry plants. The music industry saw $ in metal. So they created a supergroup. Look hiw Metallica influenced an entire generation of kids.

@@firebirdlover4460 I agree with you 100 percent. That's exactly why master, ride justice and black all sound so refined and classical influence all over it . I'm not saying Kirk and James didn't write great riffs. I'm saying once the industry got them they directed them in very specific ways. Studio players showed them better arrangements, different movements and helped them craft what they ultimately became. Yes Metallica wrote great music. But Kirk and James didn't write what we were listening to too. They played it. Had some good ideas but ultimately were guided, shown and groomed.
