Imagine Elton being one of your idols... and your band is called upon to perform at a show to honour him. After he already called one of your songs one of the best ever written. Must've been surreal for them. And Elton was obviously loving it, singing and clapping along.

When they cover a song, it becomes a Metallica song. If there is one thing they are underappreciated for, it is their ability to do stuff like this. I can't think of a single other metal band that would even consider doing something like this. Metallica killed it, and you could see they were having fun doing it.

So I started listening to this band right around 1986, MOP times, and have loved almost everything they've put out since then, and back (RTL and KEA). I look back and there is no way these kids knew who Elton John was, or even cared, when they first started... and look at them now... fucking crushing it at an Elton John Tribute concert. Couldn't be more proud to be a Metallica Fan. Happy 61st James

I nominate this as possibly the coolest thing Metallica has ever done. Really shows the level of stature and respect they have ascended to. Elder Statesmen for sure.

Wow!!! I've just heard this for the first time about a week ago. Metallica is one of my favs and I just learned that another song I really like, Whiskey In The Jar from their album Garage Inc, is an Irish traditional song that also got the Metallica treatment. Impressive musicians I mean an Elton & Bernie song??? And they pulled it off masterfully. I feel like I just got baptized in the Church of Rock and Roll and I'M A FAN AGAIN!!! Coolest thing I've seen in awhile now...

I feel bad for Thrash fans who never enjoyed Metallicas real side. Imagine being that Miserable you think people enjoying Music is selling out... Metallica is Pure Soul!

Interesting to compare it to the 89 Grammy and see the difference in the crowd. Metal got here despite the broadcasters.

I love how Hammett respects the song and yet finds a small two bars to throw in a Metallica style riff at 5:16 Killer take on a classic. Looks like Sir Elton John is loving this version too. Rock on!

Metallica fans, from the world record holder of listening to Funeral, I love this! I can tell you the immediate enthusiasm of the audience may have been dampened by hearing a cover of this song not knowing how good it would be. Imagine Elton covering a Metallica song that you don't know how it will be. And this is a fan favorite.
