Randy Rhoads is my guy. I can't play guitar worth shit. I mean I can play it. Put my hands where they should be on the neck, pick the proper strings, and it still sounded like hell. After 2 years of guitar lessons (14-15) (and I was actually a damn good trumpet/French Horn player in band - but that really doesn't count does it? lol) I told my guitar teacher I was "thinking about taking a break". The first words out of his mouth before thinking was "Thank God"! LOL The majority of the songs I "learned" was Judas Priest. Back then, and still today my favorite metal band. But I didn't give up. I worked all summer, saved and bought my first drum set at 16 (brand new too. $1,800 in like 1990. My family wanted to kill me. lol Life's too short to play shitty instruments or have shitty half ass stereo equipment! At home or in the car!). Still playing drums and have a pretty nice Pearl Birch set with Zildjian and Sabien B20 bronze cymbals right now with the Pearl eliminator pedals. Pretty sweet. . Always spent more on my cymbals than my drums, because I didn't want to sound like I was playing trash can lids! Even on my first set. . Now I "can" play those bloody things pretty good! LOL! Still can't play guitar. No Dave Grohl here. But, it did teach me about the guitar, and learn to read the music, so it still helped my overall musical ability. More drummers should learn how to read regular music and at least "try" with another instrument for that reason. Understanding song structure, and melody is always a good thing. (PS An amazing metal album from Greece: Sakis Tolis - Among the Fires of Hell (in English). Solo album released free on KZbin, and I'd say best metal album 20121. And if you are not familiar with 2 Japanese bands: Bandmaid - Thrill. 5 piece all girl band that is just something else (in English). And Ningen Isu - The Battle of the Deities, or Heartless Scat for introduction. They are a 3 piece metal band and been around for awhile. But in the last 7-8 years really came into their own and have some very good and consistent song writing (in Japanese). Lastly gotta mention another Greek band "Villagers of Ioannina City - Age of Aquarius. Best rock album 2022 (in English). The entire album, their sophomore release is excellent. Not a bad song on it, and a good journey concept album (in English).(sorry but for something completely different, can't even describe her except she's good. Amelia Arsenic - "oxytocin" and "Purity". Really most of her stuff is pretty good, and something not like the others. lol You might like her. Most everybody I turn her on to do.) I'm also a pretty big Pendulum and Knife Party fan too. I think Rob Swire is one of the best overall musicians, song writers, andartists out there these days.(For something hardcore Pendulum - Witchcraft Rob Swire D and B remix. It hits hard and is a good way to challenge your stereo system!). Disclaimer: All songs best enjoyed turned up and "felt" not just "heard". LOL! Take care and keep on Rockin' my friend! Life without music (and drums) would be a Mistake!

I've always seen him as criminally underrated. His solos maintain a melodic feel as well as a storytelling aspect that is in many ways was never matched by other more recognized guitarists. His solos never serve solely as a technical showcase, and even when the solos got more complex they always served to take the song to new places and in many cases added even more depth to some already great songs.

As a fan, it’s still difficult to come to terms with the reality that he really can’t play anymore - and that there’s no way back, no medical treatment, no help. All things end, but the goods have been delivered and we - none of us - will forget what GT gave to our lives and to metal music. As other's have said, probably one of the most under rated guitarists in metal. Everyone always talks about Eddie, Randy, Dime, Zakk, Vai, Satch, Hetfield/Hammett, Mustaine, even Murray/Smith are talked about more than Glenn and KK. Absolutely nothing wrong with mentioning those names, but both Glenn and KK deserve so much more for what they can do on the axe and for their contribution to metal guitar. The 2 of them pioneered the twin guitar attack in metal, took what Tony did and gave it that edge and precision that helped broaden the sound of metal. They brought it out of the blues and in simple terms...straight into metal. Too many great solo's and riffs to merely pick one, but one of my fave's of Glenn's would be the solo from All Guns Blazing, KK's I'm thinking his solo in Jawbreaker or his into to Metal Meltdown.

When it comes to Glenn's style I always have to think of Rob Halford saying that he plays leads the way someone would sing. That's kind of the perfect description. He adopted a lot of techniques over the year, like all the sweep picking later on but he always kept that sense of melody, a lot of feel in his bendings. He might not care about music theory but honestly, someone who has played piano always has some degree of understanding of music theory. The way a keyboard works you just can't help to learn some of it, it's like second hand smoking.
@221b-l3t4 ай бұрын
People like that say the don't know theory because they know how deep it can go. He wasn't analysing counterpoints in Baroque music. But any pianist knows more theory than 90% of guitarists.

How are you isolating the guitar tracks? That is really cool. Keep up the great work!

GlennTipton is an absolute legend, Easily one of the biggest influences coming out of the 70’s and 80’s Era. Top solos I would say, Painkiller Some heads are gonna room Beyond the Realms of Death Electric Eye Out in the Cold One shot of Glory

I have been a huge JP fan my whole life and have always thought that KK and Tipton were the all time best guitar duo leads by Tipton are tasty and always like the lead as much as the song and more. Jp are my all time favorite with Megadeth a second just always good guitar work better than the rest even if not the most technical!!! They made me play guitar for my whole life. Cheers and good health to them all

It would be hard to find someone who has a run half as long as Tipton, he kept progressing, but always sounds like him, not to mention all of the writing he did.
