I´m deeply impressed. We all know the "restoration" videos where the main part is polishing and buffing all engine parts to a chrome-like finish and applying spray paint to the bare metal of the frame. *This one is quite different*. This was a full engine rebuild with new bearings, bushings, seals, gaskets, piston kit, valvetrain overhaul, timing chain including tensioner and countless other new or refurbished parts. They even sprayed primer on the frame before spraying it with new paint. The engine is basically like new. This Honda may not look as pretty as other "restorations", but it will be very reliable for many years. Look, I´m from western europe, and even I would buy this Super Cub without hesitation, knowing it is in perfect mechanical condition.

When polishing, keep the piece oriented in the same direction and move the piece in straight lines. That will keep it from looking cloudy and make the grain of the metal uniform. Been polishing metal on the side for 15 years.

I actually couldn't believe, that the engine has a valvetrain. A serious OHC valvetrain in a 49cc motorbike! I'm truly amazed by Japanese engineering and what they were able to make in the era, when this bike was made.

They stopped making them because they were so good until electronic ignition problems started I had my dad's c70 in the 80s handle bar faring leg shields 12miles back and forth to work 50 mph worked out a penny A mile Road it every day for five years didn't put a spanner on it fantastic little bike used my cx500 week ends and evenings lol

I've just bought a 1980 veg c70 fully restored paid eighteen hundred pounds for it these things are fetching serious money now I've had 12 Cubs since 1987 I paid fifty pounds for a c50 then them days are gone mine I knocked mine down from 2200 pounds worth every penny love them.

I think it doesn't really matter this much when you wrench as a hobby, but as a professional mechanic being exposed to these chemicals everyday for 8-10 hours a day for 30-40 years can really fuck you up. A box of nitrile gloves can be a cheap insurance.

Nice job, excepted one thing : wirebrush on aluminium makes marks on it, and it doesn't shine for a long time. I prefer polish, or just gentle cleaning and removing paint.

Wow! There certainly are a lot of critics below with their comments and suggestions. Perhaps they should consider the location of this obviously third world country ,the availability of resources and the working conditions. The mechanics (and they are genuine mechanics...just look at the work they’ve done) are possibly untrained ,underpaid and rely on hard work and ingenuity to achieve the terrific workmanship displayed in this video. The final results speak for themselves. There are plenty of “mechanics” in North America that couldn’t change a wiper blade with all their overpriced tools and yet, these folks have completely rebuilt what was an absolute write-off to (almost) show room condition on a shoestring (er...sandal strap) budget. Good job and, great video.

You ask ''will it run after 40 years?'' - Looking at the cover on the brake pedal, this bike has obviously been used until a few years ago. So, I'd say someone _was_ maybe using it, and it _was_ running in probably the last few years - it's just never been cleaned or maintained. I have seen worse examples _still_ on the road in foreign countries!

The video showed you installing the piston and cylinder on the crankcases and the head on the cylinder with no o-rings on the oil passages. There would be a bad oil leak between the cylinder and crankcase and between the head and cylinder. You may have put the o-ring below the cylinder before it shows you installing the head, but you installed the head, cam chain and top cover in one shot with out the o-ring between the head and cylinder. Someone using your video as a guide would be in big trouble. I have been working on Honda motorcycles since the 1960's, before this bike was introduced.
