In this video I am going to set up the ring and pinion in the CJ3A project. Also it is finally time to use some of my new lubricant to lube the front axleshafts in the knuckle.

I enjoy watching all your videos . Your willingness to share your skills & knowledge is much appreciated.Do not let people get to you with there bad comments they are not worth the time of day.I am a Canadian and have had a great interest in willy's CJ3B's.When I came across your channel it became one of my daily ritual to take in as much knowledge on the will's as possible. The CJ3B that you are restoring would you consider selling?Ok for now looking forward to hearing from you.Keep wellGood bless Reg

Thanks for your comment and so glad you are enjoying the videos. I have had a lot of folks want to buy the CJ3B but at this point it is too early in the project to make a decision. I still have lots to do on that project so keep watching and see how things come together.

Another great video ! Many thanks for posting this. I wonder just how many knuckle joints are flying round and round, totally unlubed, with all the carefully applied lube having been flung out to the outer casing because they used the wrong type of lube, the lube you have developed looks just perfect, I think that would migrate back onto the knuckles after a short drive with no problem, but be thick enough not to leak out through the swivel seals. Chris B.
@metalshaperJeep7 жыл бұрын
thanks for the comment Chris. It took a long time to develop the correct lube for the knuckles but it was worth it. This lube is the perfect viscosity and lubes the axle shaft joints and the king pin bearings properly. Will be showing the correct transmission and transfer case lube in a future video as well. Thanks for your continued support.

Having trouble getting diff in right. Already on 2nd set of bearings on diff. When I tighten do bearing caps to spec, the pinion turning has a chunking feel one only one part of ring rear turn. Dial indicator shows up to .0045 difference in the turn of the ring gear while touching the back of gear. Could the bearings be on crooked, or what? The marking of the match between pinion and ring gear shows the match close to the inside instead of the middle. Maybe I didn't setup pinion right?

Hey Brian, I've been running 00 cornhead gear oil for a while and have had good luck with it, warm weather only, spicer ujoint what's your thoughts on this
@metalshaperJeep2 жыл бұрын
I have made a few lube videos and talked about Corn Head Grease. It does not have the same properties as the grease I have developed and does not work well in all temperature ranges. Drags the axles a bit and wastes gasoline due to driveline drag. As I say all the time people can and should run whatever they want, but if you want the correct lube I have it.

Just let me know the average temperature range you will be operating in and I can get the correct lubricants to you. Brian You can contact me directly at metalshaper@comcast.net

What is the torque for the spindle bolts into the knuckle?
@metalshaperJeep3 жыл бұрын
32 to 35 ft. lbs. Use sealer so the knuckle lube does not leak out.

Excelent videos! Great detail and explanations. I'm rebuilding both diferentials and I will use rzeppa shafts. Do you know what tolerance should have the spindle bushing against the shaft? I have to replace de bushings and I was told that need to be a litle loose and not so tight.

I'm currently working on an M38A1 and I follow your videos pretty much down to the "T" for all work. As with everybody else's response obviously the depth of detail is outstanding! I only have one problem I can't seem to solve. My driver's side Bendix joint separated and I can't seem to figure out how to reinstall all the balls and pin. Is there any chance you could make a video on this so I can make some progress??? On a side note thanks a TON for the videos you have made!!

Brian, your videos are a great help in rebuilding my Dana 23. Situation: After I got the correct rotational torque I replaced the oil slinger and seal and the rotation seems a bit too tight, around 35 in lbs. is that too tight?? Thanks!
@metalshaperJeep2 жыл бұрын
If you set your rotational torque properly without the seal then all is fine. The seal adds a bit more torque and it isn't a problem. That is the reason to set up without the seal.

Maybe a stupid question but to measure proper rotational torque does the yoke washer under the yoke nut have to be installed? The reason I ask is I did it without it.
@metalshaperJeep7 жыл бұрын
I usually put the washer in there just so the nut doesn't gall up the splines. It isn't necessary, you just need to be sure the yoke is pressing up against the bearing to preload it. That will happen with or without the washer. Keep checking and adjusting shims until you get the right rotational torque and you will be fine. Brian
