If someone could figure out how to combine some of the quality of life improvements from ShadowOne33's Zelda 2 Redux romhack with this one... I'd be in heaven. For me, Zelda 2 Redux is the definitive edition, as this one is simply too difficult for new players to be able to enjoy. The original was hard enough, this one is way, way harder.
@robhulson Жыл бұрын
For example, there's no chance in hell anyone new to the game is going to survive the difficulty leading up to and including Palace 1. The amount of work you have to put into getting your first assembled heart container is ridiculous. And the amount of enemies you have to kill, for the first time upon meeting them, IN PITCH DARKNESS with hardly any prompts, is lunacy. Now, I'm good at the game so I don't mind the challenge. But there's no way this version is the definitive edition without some serious adjustments to the magic system and the ability to at least assembled an extra heart before starting Palace 1.

@@MetalSmasherGamingDisregard my previous statement. I watched more of the video and seen the game changes. You basically are doing that method, just differently. I don't have the free time to watch an entire 6 hour long video of someone playing a game, just watching bits of it. If I had that kind of time, I'd be playing this game. Zelda 2 is highly under rated. It's one of, if not the greatest. My favorite zelda. A link to the past a close second. Before all you start attacking me, making a larger playable area and filling it with "collectathons," etc (to pad it out/ make it longer) does not make a game better. As an example, take chrono trigger. It only takes 20ish hours to complete, very little, if any, grinding required, and all the side (optional) quests build character depth to each character's story. And it's considered one of the greatest RPGs ever made. My only opinion / criticism of what I watched was they could have done the final 2 versions of Ganon differently.

To those wondering what the final part was. Basically Ganondorf needed Link's blood in order to return to normal so what Link did was he fought and defeated Dark Link and took his blood instead. This is because the blood from his shadow would be incompatible with Ganon and as such he would return in a weakened state but it would also be technically Link's blood but not hence why he would be bought back in an incomplete state. A botched revival so to speak. So Link went to Ganon's Castle with Dark Link's blood which is in a state of ruins to finally put Ganon to rest once and for all. He pours Dark Link's blood on the grave that contains Ganon's soul. This causes the grave to come to life attacking Link (It's supposed to resemble Ganon's head of his Gerudo form hence the jewel.) After a two part battle Link destroys the grave that Ganon's possessing reducing him to his incomplete soul form. A demonic skull infused in dark shadow mass. After a grueling fight what remains of Ganon is destroyed and his dark presence fades completely thus putting a permanent end to the king of evil. (At least until BOTW where he reincarnates once more as the calamity in the reunified timeline.)

Simon's Quest has a very similar story how the big antagonist is handled, and its released half a year after Zela II, while Zelda II is made like a typical Castlevania game, just without the whip, but a short sword. And there is "Battle of Olympus" which is very much like Zelda II, with basicly the same endboss. Guess, Zela II was a very inspiring game, despite beeing completely different in its gameplay compared to the other zeldas.

Great playthrough! You missed the upgraded fairy spell "cucco" in the forest to the left of the river monster. You have to enter the sidescrolling section and when you come out of it, hammer the trees to reveal it. Makes it last for as many screens as you want, and you can also up/down stab with it. Apparently if you beat the game in this form, you get a special ending.
@easymentality11 ай бұрын
To help clarify: [[DON'T read on if you don't want to know where the cucco spell is]] Just northwest of the river monster is a patch of trees surrounding a lake. On the LEFT/WEST side of that lake, you can find a FAIRY beside the lake. When you exit this FAIRY SCREEN, if you're facing DOWN/SOUTH, just use your hammer right there. This is the only way to hammer the particular patch of trees you need to hammer--by exiting the fairy screen. This will reveal a single hut which you can enter and to get the spell.

Interesting concept, this remake. At first, that post-game segment confused me a bit. But then I realized the original had an unresolved plot point: Ganon's followers seeking Link's blood. Going for a second bout against Dark Link to extract HIS blood, getting the mask for a disguise, and that oddball boss fight are actually efforts to undermine and prevent Ganon's return. Also, interesting idea to use an 8-bit render of the Ganon battle theme from A Link to the Past. That whole "undermine and prevent Ganon's return" thing is showcased by the fact that Dark Link's blood was incompatible. It also feels like the idea for that post-game fight was pulled out of Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest.

38:40 I don't have this? I'm a bit ahead dungeons wise but I got stuck so I started following this and I'm on the current version and this looks different for me (also my underground passages look different as well, Error and the kid are not in the buildings before you go down. Anyways, the problem: I can't jump up there, and there's no grey cloud. I killed the previous slime that was in Parapa Palace, but when I went here, nothing? Also I am far ahead of where this guide is at the point where I'm watching (I've done all the north east / west / swamp) but still stuck with this particular section. If anyone can help me figure out what I need to do to get this to maybe show up? is there something I need to do for this to change, or is the version I'm on specifically change this and perhaps move it? Thanks if anyone can answer o7

I just played through this over the weekend. The latest version changes a few things. The 2nd quest fight against Link's Shadow has a different, longer version of the music that really kinda slaps.

Played through this twice just to set up a save file before you fight Dark Link in the second quest. The upgraded AI and music blew me away.

Awesome. I wish we got to fight an actual Ganon, but it makes sense plotwise that we fight a botched version of him instead.

Looks like a Zelda 2 Hero Mode for the NES! So cool! :) I made a similar thing, but in native resolution, for Zelda 1 on the PC with the Zelda Classic editor. :) Greetings from Switzerland!

I find putting the "trophy" of an obvious angel in a graveyard is to rightfully mock the censorship.
