Do you guys have a video explaining the difference between grades of steel? For example, the difference between A36 and AR400 96X240 plates?

Hey, Mr. Jackson, I’m just a hobbyist apprentice looking for some steel to learn some machining and must mention that’s I’ve called your east tampa store today and was impressed with the person on the phone, Beth! What a friendly and non-intimidating person to make someone welcome in such a new world, and that means the world for me! She deserves some kudos! Super satisfied and I haven’t even been in the store yet!!! Really looking for meeting your team and hope all are as friendly as Beth was today! Great video!

I love absorbing knowledge and I have decent amount of knowledge regarding chemistry, so I have found these videos very informative. I’m not looking for the actual formulas for producing these metals, but having a working knowledge of the basics help understand this. Thanks for making these!

How can an AISI number be used to designate steel with greater than 1% carbon ?
@nsk7952 жыл бұрын
Hello in the last you told 4140 4 indicates mylabdeum And 1 % is mylabdeum or Re-sulfurized carbon steel Please clarify..
@RayanAloweiny5 жыл бұрын
I didn't get it, first you said the second digit of the series indicates the Sub-category , then you said generally it indicates the concentration of the major element ?? so how can I find out for (SAE1015) for example ?? can anyone explain ? :)

I have a question for steel knowers. What if you cut smaller part from very thick steel (10x10x10 inch cube), lets say 2x2x6 inch. Is it same strength as if you cast 2x2x6 steel right away?
@sierraecho884 Жыл бұрын
unless you change the harness etc by the cutting process it is the same yes. Steel in general is Isotropic unlike carbon fiber which is anisotropic.

Great analysis with "CAST" or Carbon Steel, Alloys, Stainless, and Tool Steels. An electric arc furnace is vital for Tool Steels and Alloy Steels. Mini-mills in America make great steel products. Thanks! T J (Tom) Vanderloop, CMfgE; ATEA, AWS & SME Leadership/Membership

Sad your too far away. I need lightweight but reasonably strong mast tubing for Ham Radio Antennas. EMT fails Rigid has weight issue. As long as can drill it bent end and hold up with guying to 50 mph great but locally very little available beyond emt or rigid plumbing.By sizing can also telescope down easily.

I have always disliked this system. The chemical composition defines a material property, therefore the more precise way would be to simply show the chemical composition like X120Mn12, It is immediately clear that this Steel contains 1,2% Carbon and 12% manganese.
