Symphony X are too good for the metal scene...or at least Michael Romeo is. They fall WITHIN it because it's the only outlet, but really Michael is too good for it all. The other members of the band are incredibly skilled as well though so I can see why they do what they do...Michael is something else though he really is.. Definitely my guitar hero.

Wow! Children of a Faceless God is my favourite song on the album, the vocal harmonies are just incredible in the chorus.

I met all these guys in New Haven at Toad's Place years and years ago. I kind of grew out of them, although I still put on their old albums occasionally and rock the fuck out. They were easily one of the nicest bands I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Also, on a funny note, I took a picture with Mike and if you look closely at his finger on my shoulder, there's this gnarly, high-risen callous on it. hahaha fuckin beast

Both monster musicians... Paradise Lost was the last of their albums I really got into, prefer their super proggy days with really intricate composition, seems like they are trying to go for a wider "generic metalhead" audience nowadays... hopefully one day they will go back to stuff like The Odyssey, V, Twilight in Olympus, Divine Wings of Tragedy type albums etc...

You and I would be best friends :D Hopefully you'll see them on this tour (if you live in Europe), they play most of their best 2007-15 songs + Evolution, Sea of Lies and THE ODYSSEY!

I agree. I really miss their early style as well. I am noticing a huge direction change in their music starting from Iconoclast towards a more "metal afk" style. And now that they have released more music we can see that they are dedicated to this new style. Sadly there's no sign for any new SX album that is similar to the Divine or Odyssey. Even Romeo's solo albums are in the same vein. I guess he's just tired of their old style. Romeo was mentioning in an interview that he wanted to go back and capture the feeling of listening to Judas Priest and Black Sabbath for the first time. I think this tells us a lot about their current style.
