The point that standardization will kill innovation is a really bad point. 90% of the stuff we use in digital world won't work if standardization is missing. If there is no standardization, we won't be able to buy components from the best makers and integrate it together. For example, we buy mouse from DELL and connect it with HP laptop or buy graphic card from NVIDIA and connect it with AMD processor, this is possible just because of standardization. There are Special Interest Group with thousands of engineers working to develop standards to incorporate new innovation. USB-C Technology is much better than lightning cable. Lightning cable came in 2012 it is 10-year-old tech. How come adopting USB-C in iPhone will stop innovation? In my opinion Apple is simply not adopting Type-C because they will lose the profit from selling chargers. USB C: * Transfer speeds up to 40Gbps * Native power support for 100W/3A and up to 240W/5A. Lightning: * Transfer speeds up to 480Mbps. * Native power support for 12W/2.4A.

Valid point! Standardization is good for customer's convenience and money saving. When we fix a standard, things that are underperforming the set standard can be improved but it is clearly not a way for break the methodologies and existing beliefs and limitations.

EU standardising the connection ports layout only. Size of the port h number of pins will be defined with this. It is up to the company to develop how & what sort of data will flow through that connecting port. Apple doesn't want to switch away from their own connector because otherwise they can't sell hyper priced cables made in china at cheaper cost.

In general i agree standardization leaves less room for Innovation. Things like digital island won't be possible if some authority says mobile screens shouldn't have notch or gaps. But in this case what innovation has apple done with lightning port in the last decade ? It doesn't have fast charging, it doesn't have high data transfer speeds, even cable quality is poor and material hasn't been changed in forever. Even apple's own iPad and Mac don't use lightning port.

The only reason is they make profit out of Lightning Cable because of unique licensing. Probably If they change it all of a sudden most old iphones might not be able to charge using an USB C. i don't thnk Standardization will kill innovation. Many companies seek to innovate if they get more money out of it. Thats the same reason they arent changing their Lightning cables. Pretty sure they will come up with a different charging idea like they came up with M chips. They just want a unique selling point to make them more profitable.
