My current set up has a water cooled RX 5700 XT. Full custom loop cpu and gpu. I did it because I wanted to learn how to water cool and absolutely loved the aesthetics of it. Till this day still proud of my build and have gotten so many compliments from it. Yes I could have put that $250 into something else in the system, but nothing would have been such a fun and fulfilling project as that.

I liquid-cooled my 3090 Ti because it's a furnace playing MSFS @ 4K. It ran fine air-cooled, but I wanted to get all that heat out of the case so I could air-cool my 7950X3D and keep case temps down.

To be far do what you want. If you want watercooling and bat a better pc then do it. Personally, I have discovered that the 4070 super is so good that it can outperform what most softwares I use are capable of. That’s including gaming, auto cad, blender, unreal 4, Bambu studio, and a bunch more. I’ve always wanted to own a 4090 when I built my first pc, but seeing how the 4070 can do everything I need at this point I would rather invest in the overall system. Even though I would not be seeing huge improvements since I’m already outpacing the software by a huge margin.

I upgraded to a 4060TI last year from a 2060 Super. I have yet to purchase or play a game that takes advantage of the upgrade. As long as I avoid the "AAA" scene, avoid gimmicks like "4K" like the plague, and it doesn't die on me, I probably don't need to upgrade my graphics card for the next... ever.

if you’re building a pc based around power efficiency it’s not an awful idea, my personal build is an r7 7700 and a 4060ti 8gb, built for effiency and kills games considering how low my out the wall wattage is, the only reason it’s not water cooled now is because of thoughts of a different cpu and maybe in turn a different motherboard, but mostly because i use a fractal terra case, so unless i 3d print something no water for me, but it’s definitely a possibility if i change out my case

Considering every update a game gets in terms of graphics or content it requires stronger components. I've played WoW for almost 20 years now and 3 expansions ago my PC was the end all be all for WoW. Have upgraded since and even now I can't max out settings without getting massive frame drops. Eventually I'll have to have a 4090 equivalent most likely.

Honestly the crappier the hardware is, the more it would benefit from water cooling. You're gonna have to run that 4060 at the bleeding edge if you want any kind of respectable performance out of it. Get a 4090 on the other hand, and that same workload will be a gentle walk in the park. Probably won't even turn on the fan
