Aaaah, the glorious jet sled! I love those things! I use these crane bags called bagster off amazon when I have a lot of smaller debris and lift them in the truck with the mini. As a mostly introverted guy with 8 employees I sometimes live vicariously through guys like you and Reg even though I love every minute of working with my dream team and it means I can go back to full hermit mode by getting off early every day. There is just something really satistying about solo tree work where you are free to just be in your own world. Sometimes I can still get that feeling when I am climbing, there is definitely a certain feeling of freedom in solitude to explore the depths of ones own mind and a level of problem solving skills and resourcefulness that come naturally from that environment.

That's so interesting to hear! I find we're kinda two sides of the same coin cuz i sometimes romanticize being on a crew with all that commeraderie. Dude: I have one of those bagster bags and haven't tried it out! I'm trying to visualize how to empty it out into the trailer ... will have to give it a test this week.

@@metaspencer Don't get me wrong, many hands make light work and having a carefully selected team of guys that can tackle any job is a choice that is extremely rewarding and I do enjoy it. I also personally really enjoy working in solitude and being able to do each step with maximum efficiency. What we do is get the bag into the truck, the roll it like a burrito spilling out all it's contents. Garbage cans are also a must have because you can get it over the tailgate and tip in duff without climbing up there.

Over 45 yrs ago I was a chipperman(woman) at a big lumber mill in Idaho. The conveyor belts brought all the cutoffs from the various saws to the chipper and the chips were "blown" to waiting train cars destined for the paper mill. i had little to do with the chipper, atually unless it clogged.. More to do with netting off the top of the train car and moving the next car into position, Our birthday is coming up again in a couple of weeks. Happy birthday to you, my friend. Thanks for sharing your week..
@metaspencerАй бұрын
Wow, now there's a work story! Sounds like one of those jobs ya learn from and is good to look back on ... with that said, probably good to have moved on from the saw dust haha ... happy almost birthday to you too! (Our oldest boy worked at a concrete company for a summer and has plenty of stories ... always great to hear)

Too clean up driveways of sticks like that I grab an Alturna mat (or piece of plywood) with my grapple and plow all the sticks into a pile it works pretty well! I like how you have a little tow hitch on the back of the mini skid that sled is pretty slick! I might look into that for dragging gear around the job site!
@metaspencerАй бұрын
I welded that hook on there and it's been useful ... I've tried that plywood trick you describe but sometimes I find I dig in a bit more than I'd like! haha

My friend... You see that chipper thing I always talk about.. what a marvelous invention!😅😅😅.. that small yellow school bus. Quite a handy tool 👍👍👍
@metaspencerАй бұрын
The lower feed wheel on this chipper kept jamming and sputtering and not spinning. Then a bolt fell off the safety bar dropping the bar to the ground. At that point I was reminded: equipment takes constant maintenance and mooooolah!

As a wise man once said, if you get your saw stuck all the time you should probably stop and reconsider what you're doing. But if you never get your saw stuck, you either cut very little or you're lying. 😅 Good stuff mate, I like the whole week concept. 👍
@metaspencerАй бұрын
I like that saying and completely agree!
@justinsnyder6256Ай бұрын
my one advice is if you use you your truck asan anchor, pull in a straight line to the frame. When you pull at an angle you yank on the steering and suspension. Put a redirect so it straight on before the truck. Fucked mine up this way.
@justinsnyder6256Ай бұрын
truck is cherry BTW I'm jealous lol
@metaspencerАй бұрын
good point man ... straight pull also allows the blocked tires to hold well

I really liked: "I'm not quite sure why he has two mattresses in his truck?" The story behind it might be interesting! Best regards from Berlin... Mike Bols
@metaspencerАй бұрын
The explanation behind the mattresses had something to do with moving and something else to do with a recent divorce, but I also think it rained on them so there's that. Good hearing from ya buddy!

yeah the trees are pretty sweet and diverse over there, and not only in the arboretum. And they've got them all numbered so they're easy to look up and ID! :)

That saw said "Ground Crew". They've clearly messed with it and not kept up the maintenance. Woulda thought they'd've stepped up for the campus job. Guess they failed the Health & Safety Induction. Drugs? 🤔 😁 Great week's work. That mini skid lifts a ridiculous amount of weight. I'm no expert, but reckon ye could use a longer bar. Definitely admire your efficiency. I need a weekend off after just watching! 😜Best, Mark
@metaspencerАй бұрын
I was thinking the same thing about the bar length ... I think I'll pop a longer one on this weekend (probably not the 36" tho) and see how it runs this week. "Busy is good" I like to say. take care man

How did you like the Vertec? Better than the RRP? Anytihing underdesigned like the upper bollard hex nuts on the RRP (they strip)?
@metaspencerАй бұрын
I've done a climb with it now and on the rope it felt to me just like the original RRP ... the big difference is being able to adjust for different ropes without a tool. For me that's a big plus cuz I like to climb on a few different ropes. But dang the price is high! I didn' know those hex nuts stipped! thanks for the tip

Yep doing great -- the anti-inflammatory diet and daily Vit D saved my life. I post MS vids over on this channel if you're interested in the details: www.youtube.com/@SpencersMSStory ... what's your story? diagnosed?
@alexza00425 күн бұрын
@@metaspencer I had a small accident last year and herniated some disks on my neck and lower back. I thought most of it had healed but now Im having some odd symptoms - head tingling, involuntary finger spasms, etc. I had 4 MRis done last year of neck, torso + lower back to asses the hernias and had different doctors look at it and no one mentioned anything around MS lines. So it could just be the hernias on the neck aggravating the nerves but I wouldn't be surprised the drs didn't notice anything - they can be really frustrating! I've seen positive MS testimonials from ppl that do Joe Dispenza's meditations. Just preparing for any possibility thanks for your positivity and courage!
