Aurora Borealis (LIVE!)

Aurora Borealis (LIVE!)

Күн бұрын

So tonight whilst I was sat in our cottage, there was a huge bang and the cottage shook violently. I thought it was an Earthquake, but we don't get Earthquakes in Lapland, right? So maybe it was a tree falling on the cottage roof? I walk outside and inspect all the trees. Nope, everything looks ok. I was absolutely dumbfounded what could have caused it. But there was not much else I could do, than forget about it.
30 minutes later, Piritta my partner contacts us asking if we are all ok as a meteor has just struck near Inari. Immediately the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. This explains the house shaking and the loud boom earlier. The cottage shaking was a result of being hit by the sonic boom. So we were close.
We run a live video stream capturing the night sky for aurora borealis purposes, I immediately think maybe that caught the show?
So I rewind the video and sure enough, there it is. Absolute goose bumps at this stage.
What. a. night.
Northern lights and a meteor burning up all wrapped together ;)
If you would like to watch our live Aurora Borealis steam:

There is nothing cooler in the night sky than seeing a Meteor explode so bright in the sky, that it looks like day time.

Wow, That was bright! This is a little off subject yet, in the video in the upper left side of the screen, the Big Dipper Constellation is seen level in the Finnish night sky with the "handle" to the left and the "dipper" to the right. Here on the west coast of California, the Big Dipper is on it's end with the "handle" pointing down and the "dipper" is pointing up, PROVING the Earth is ROUND. Because if the Earth is flat, the Big Dipper would appear in the same way all over this "disc" the flat-Earthers perceive as the shape of our World. Just wanted to point out this empirical evidence to all of the foolish people who think the World is flat. Namaste.

Wait... 🤔 the stars in Ursa Major are 100’s of light years away, and don’t move in relation to the earth. Just because the earth has hemispheres and rotates, doesn’t mean that changes. That always appear the same. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have seen in happen in Ottawa about 20 years ago, my wife and I out for a walk early evening and a ball of fire shot between 2 buildings which then blocked out view of where it went, the ball was huge, almost as though the sun shot across the sky and so fast that if you blinked you would have missed it, it was an awesome sight

Beautiful, though a scary thought, thinking it could have hit even closer... But it didn't and resulted in a great vid! Awesome to see how the nightsky turns to daylight! I had an experience like this (the night briefly looking like day) around 15 years ago in Holland when one streaked across the sky véry early on a winter morning when I was scraping the ice of my car windows. I was getting ready to get to work when the sky just lit up in a slightly greenish hue! When I looked up I saw the meteor for about 2 seconds and then it apparently burned up... The tail remained visible for a little while as it was lit by the sun from behind the horizon. It was not on a trajectory that would have landed it in Holland and clearly it was too small to hit the ground at all,... unless it would have entered the atmosphere under a different angle maybe.... ? Nevertheless it was an experience I will never forget!

@EmzyT0
@EmzyT0 3 жыл бұрын
Technically what you saw would have been a meteor. If a meteoroid (name while in space) enters our atmosphere and burns away it’s a meteor, but if it survives that and hits the ground it’s a meteorite. Tbf a lot of people get them mixed up. Hell the only reason I remember is because my security camera picked up what I believe to be a meteorite hitting telephone pole a couple of years ago, but I had to Google which way round it was when I uploaded the footage, as I knew if I got it wrong someone pedantic pain in the ass like myself would find it and correct me 🤣
